    Paphipedilum parishii #1

Bark mix (orchiata bark, perlite, and charcaol). The 2 large plants I received from Paph Paradise, one is potted in medium bark mix, the other one is potted in small mix. Both work, just to make sure that you use the smallest pot possible, and also only water it when it is bone dry.

    Paphipedilum parishii #1

Paphipedilum parishii #1: in full bloom now. The petals have become twisty. This is a very rare species in cultivation and in bloom. I have another one that is opening up, cannot wait to see it in full bloom in 10-14 days.....will post when #2 is in full bloom.

    Cymbidium goeringii "Mebina" 日本春蘭「女雛」(Japanese variety)

They have small pseudobulbs. Japanese Cym. goeringii have finer, thiner roots compared with the Chinese varieites. Chinese varieties, the roots are fatter and thicker.

    Cymbidium goeringii "Mebina" 日本春蘭「女雛」(Japanese variety)

Cymbidium goeringii "Mebina" 日本春蘭「女雛」(Japanese variety). Got this plant in 2020 as a small seedling with 3 healthy but not so long roots. Repotted this morning. After 3 seasons, there are many many more long white roots. Hopefully will bloom next year. Images before and after repotting.

    Paphiopedilum parishii #1

smallest pot possible. It is potted in small bark bix, the other pot that is budding is potted in a medium bark mix. I think medium bark probably is better for the plant but I don't see any differences. I received the plants this way about 2 years ago, I never repotted. I only water it when it...

    Paphiopedilum parishii #1

I bought 3 in total, 2 nbs/ls and 1 ms seedlings close to 2 years ago. The 2 largest plants, one is blooming, the other one is budding. So I am pretty happy. The damage on the leaves are from my cats. They eat/scratch the leaves. I tried my best to deter them by using cinammon powder, that's...

    Paphiopedilum parishii #1

Paphiopedilum parishii #1-This plant has 5 flowers. The first bloom is completely opened. The purple petals become twisty now. The staminode is defective on the first flower but I will take it considering that this is a very hard species to find and to grow, let alone flowering it. Paphiopedilum...

Paph parishii (could this be a starting of a spike)

I got very excited when I discovered that the plant is maybe producing a flower spike, with many tiny "leaf/sheath" structure....if it's a spike, it only took me about 20 years to figure out how to grow this. In the 20 years, I was only able to find 3 Paph parishii in decent shape in Canada...

    Cattleya amethystoglossa

Yes, it is a nice one. The flower colour changes as the flower matures :) quite interesting, When it first opens, it is more fusia and as it matures, it turns more pale.

    Cattleya amethystoglossa

This is a difficult species for me to bloom. It produced a blind sheath almost every year; however, this year it produced a sheath that actually produced blooms. I believe this species normally blooms in March/April. The last time it bloomed was 2 seasons ago, bloomed in March/April. The flowers...

East Asian Cymbidium Potting Materials...Japan Post Opened up for Canada

Potting materials for East Asian Cymbidium: I am so glad that Japan Post finally is able to ship to Canada. It was shut down since June 2021 but reopened in early Nov 2022. I immediately asked Japan to ship the potting materials for East Asian Cymbidium. I bought 60 L of this material, so...

    Cattleya dormaniana

It is rare to see this species in cultivation in Canada. It can only produce 1 flower per stem (my favourite flower number count, so rewarding!) Both of my Cattleya dormaniana are blooming now. The one on the left (curvy flower) is a rescue plant I received 4-5 years ago. Last year, bloomed for...

    Cymbidium ensifolium. HELP!!!!

Interesting description from Seattle orchids. The description of how to grow Cymbidium goeringii is completely wrong. No wonder people kill them. Also, if Seattle Orchids gets the East Asian Cymbium spp from Tenshin, none of the plants are blooming size. They are medium seedling, large seedling...
