Cymbidium goeringii "Mebina" 日本春蘭「女雛」(Japanese variety). Got this plant in 2020 as a small seedling with 3 healthy but not so long roots. Repotted this morning. After 3 seasons, there are many many more long white roots. Hopefully will bloom next year. Images before and after repotting.

do they use those big fat roots for water storage?

They have small pseudobulbs. Japanese Cym. goeringii have finer, thiner roots compared with the Chinese varieites. Chinese varieties, the roots are fatter and thicker.
