Well obviously you are correct. But it would be nearly impossible to say exactly when that happened. We would like to say the grower is at fault or the vendor, but that might not be the case.
Having worked at shows for vendor friends of mine, if I had a dime for every tag that we found during...
Oops, i
Kind of misread that title. You asked about mulching material. I have never heard it called mulching material. I call it “media.”
The above image shows my media of choice. Perlite, charcoal, fine bark, seedling bark, Leca.
Sorry.
I have never “top dressed” any orchid pot. In my experience it messes with the normal wet dry cycle of orchid culture.
If my plants dry out too fast, I a. Water more often or b. I increase humidity c. Or if an orchid needs more water I put it into a finer mix.
Conversely if the plants dry out...
So sorry to hear about your orchid issues.
Dendrobium biggibum is offered some time on e-bay.
You really should have no trouble with Phrags. In Minnesota. Are you watering enough? Generally they do not like to grow dry at all. Some like it wetter then others.
No! Don’t build up the media. That could endanger the health of the plant. It will gain all its strength from the plant that is there.
Are those flowers from your Dendrobium Victoria-reginae? Because if they are, they are not from Victoria-reginae. Those flowers are from a Dendrobium...
Pseudobulbs, not pods.
To me it looks like the beginning of a new bulb. Little vegetative growths can pop up almost anywhere on this type of Dendrobium.
It could even form its own roots later on.
And I hope that you have learned a lesson. One that we have all had to learn. We should never touch our flowers. Our hands are clumsy, fat fingers that are not suitable for fine delicate work.
This is why I learned to keep a fine paint brush handy, long handled go have me gently work it in to...
Exactly and I am pleased that you have a good time.
I should have said this though in my explanation. In ribbon judging you just have to be the best white Cattleya in the show. BUT for AOS judging, you have to be the amongst the best Cattleya Bob Betts ever seen. Or you have to be as good as...
In all three Judging Centers that I have been associated with, they all used the same ideas at ribbon judging.
Ribbon judging can be thought of as a Class Schedule. Let us say as an example, you have a large flowered standard white Cattleya. To win a ribbon, you need your Cattleya to be the best...
If I remember correctly, the Orchid Zone was run by Terry Root. He had built himself quite a reputation of being a quality breeder and grower. This is of course, what I am remembering from what, maybe 18 years ago, maybe longer. He was out west somewhere.
He was involved in Paphiopedilums and...
There is no way to hide your unfortunate mistake.
I am an AOS judge and here is what I/we think of when we see a spike with a missing flower. Why is it missing? Was it removed because of an accident like yours? Or was it removed due to bad form, color or another problem. We would pass on it and...
Once the leaves are damaged from a bacteria, fungus or insect problem, those spots will not change back to green.
The plants cells have been damaged. Nothing will fix them.
I am sorry but I don’t see any real problems.
How are you watering? How often do you water?
From what I see in your...
Question please? Question.
Darlene, what fertilizer do you use? Holy cow! Every plant that I have seen you associated with is beautifully grown!!
Do have the cows visit you in order to spread manure on the orchids or what. 🐄
Holy smokes!! ❤️❣️💕❣️❤️
Tyrone got his guess in before me but I
thought Wossner Black Wings as well. When I first saw the flower, the color compares but my first thought went to that elongated pouch. Seems a bit long for a Roth. But maybe anitum or adductum with a Roth?
Just a thought.
