Phragmipedium Fritz Schomburg ( besseae x kovachii )

No understanding - but my wild-a-- guess would be that they result from a mismatch of the color genes.

    watering and tools

My husband used to be an engineer, so this is my watering system. There are pipes to two spigots and a pressure tank so the water can be delivered at an even pressure in the upper most part of our yard. We hand water; no irrigation or misters. But adding a siphon for in-line fertilizer has...

    Phrag. d'alessandroi 'DD #2'

Tom, if you had to over generalize, how long would you say it takes it reach maturity or fully branching like that? Either in years or blooming cycles (or even dog years)?

    Phrag. besseae

Hi Eric, Thanks. I picked up a flask of these at a Paph Guild meeting. They came from Tokyo Orchid Nursery, but I don’t have the cultivar names of the parents. I asked someone who works with them to see if they could find out and I never heard back. I’m sure you’re right about the photos, but...

    Phrag. besseae

Yes it is. I should probably cut the flower and let it rest, but it’s hard...

    Phrag. besseae

Tom, I like that we can be blooming the same sweet flowers, thousands of miles apart. Here are three 3 outdoor shots of one of my besseaes this morning. I tried to dial down the sunlight on one of the pics, to try to capture the sparkles. It did not really work, but I know they’re there...

My recent new aquisitions! Genera benders..... need help / suggestions on getting them to bloom.....

Hi Polka, #12 is Weltz Ballad. A varied array of intersectional crosses, which I (personally) find can be challenging to grow. If you can get them to flower, you definitely have some interesting ones there. Good luck!

    Phragmipedium Yelva Myhre

I think this one turned out really well, especially for a first bloom. Good shape, nice color and texture, yummy pouch. Can’t really discern size. When it gets its full mojo, it’s going to be a stunner!!! I’ve got a bunch of little Yelvas coming up, from Ecuagenera I think, but none have...

    Paph. Saint Swithin

Hi Joe, Welcome. First thing I would say is that you might have better luck with phrag culture advice if you post your questions in the slipper culture thread or the phrag thread. These Paph guys don’t necessarily love phrags as much as you (and I) do. I would say that it depends on how much...

    Paphiopedilum exul

I have a big green clump that appears to be forming sheaths on at least two of the growths. I hung it with my vandas last fall, cuz it sure wasn’t blooming elsewhere. Not sure if they are going to actually produce buds yet, but orchid growers must be patient, right?

    Safari pesticide question

Serge, The main ingredient/generic name for Merit is imidacloprid. You should follow the directions on the label of the product you buy as it may be available in different strengths. (I would be surprised if Leslie told you otherwise, btw.) In the US, you can buy it on Amazon or eBay, with...
