I wish you'd BOTH go. You know you had a blast when you went, Eric. Just because there's no paintball allowed in the meeting room....

    15th International Slipper Orchid Symposium • November 2, 2013 • Orlando, FL

Rob, I think they decided to take it easy and have a more relaxing symposium this year. We will all miss their awesome sales table but it will still be wonderful just to have them there with us. We sure hope you can find a way to be there - it wouldn't be the same without you.

Why Paph. Crystelle is not avaible?

We'll know in about 2 years. Frank made a couple versions of this cross right after Paph. Crystelle got the AQ/AOS. I haven't been able to talk him out of any of those seedlings.

    Phrag longifolium album flask

Be careful with the flasks. Remember that big greenhouse you just downsized? You might need it again.

    Noooooooooooo!

Affleck has proven that he is a good director, but the way he manages to insert himself as a character in the movies he directs seems gratuitous. Gigli got a lot more hate than it probably deserved, and most of the time Affleck is an OK actor. He's just not Batman.

    Noooooooooooo!

If they were trying to find someone whose acting wouldn't overshadow Cavill, it looks like they found him. I have always thought Liev Schreiber would make an excellent Batman. He has the stature, the presence, and that VOICE, but after reading this article it starts to look like this...

    Pair of BIG brown balls!

Considering all that honey badger action, it's a wonder the situation isn't much worse.

no more water soluble snail killers?

In a "Ghost Busters" sort of way, I suppose! I have to tie something around the ankles or the footies start doing things on their own. It's a great invention -take it out of the sealed pouch, wear it once, and then wad it into a plastic bag and put it in the trash. I use a 50 gallon Dramm...

no more water soluble snail killers?

It sounds like the same product we use now. Just this morning I donned the tyvec bunny suit and respirator to apply 40 gallons of mixed solution in the greenhouse. Oddly, orchids grow so much better when the slugs don't get a chance to gnaw the green tips off the roots.

no more water soluble snail killers?

Are you talking about this stuff?: Super effective against slugs, but evil nasty awful horrible - I mean really bad! - effects on pets and humans. We used to use this stuff by the case before it fell victim to the cost of compliance with modern labeling requirements. Not so great...

OH NO! Another "Guess The Hybrid" Thread!

Close enough! It is Paph. Dark Desire (Berenice x godefroyae) There is NOTHING in the foliage to indicate that a brachypetalum parent is involved. Here is the photo from the previous flowering on a little single-growth plant: And once again this year's flowering. Same plant...

OH NO! Another "Guess The Hybrid" Thread!

Remember it is a "near-primary" hybrid. One parent is primary and the other is a species.

OH NO! Another "Guess The Hybrid" Thread!

This near-primary hybrid and its siblings came from a flask I set out over 20 years ago. They never got attacked by bugs or pathogens, but never really grew all that much either. They just sat there. Small and unflowered for years. And sat there some more. Every year at repotting time when...

    Never again, ORCHID INN!

It's fascinating to note the title of this thread contrasted with the more recent posts it contains. It just might support that old notion that there is no such thing as bad publicity (with the exception of our own obituary, of course). Oscar Wilde put it another way: "The only thing worse...

    Paph. Wossner Tigerhenry

Oh yes, I think you have a point. With the improved color and form contributed by the Paph. tigrinum several generations back, there could eventually be a grex of Paph. henryanum worthy of joining those flat-dorsaled Paph. spicerianum and the tubular pouched Paph. godefroyae along with others...

    Judging Legal and Illegal Plants

This will probably be updated soon. Asendorfer was selling small Paph. gigantifolium seedlings and one or two of its hybrids with legal paperwork at Redland last week.
