I rinsed my moss a bunch and still had clay particles stuck to them. I decided it was good enough and soaked them in diluted hydrogen peroxide for about 20 minutes. Hopefully it took care of any hitchhikers

Thanks! I’ll update this thread with my progress. I know sphagnum moss is known for dropping pH, but I haven’t found anything on the pH regulating effects of live moss. I figure the oyster shell I have in my mix will buffer against the effects of the sphagnum.

Started a moss garden. I’m growing five local species of moss under the same conditions as my orchids, and whichever species thrives will be used for a live moss top dressing in my orchid pots. 🙂

I’ve had this stonei seedling top dressed in sphagnum moss for two days now and noticed this browning near the crown last night—cause for concern, or simply cosmetic damage?

The top shelf has Sansi 70W LED grow lights. The bottom is a mix of Barrina 6500K LED garage lights (I had some extras from my fish setup) + Barrina 4000K LED grow lights.

They are! I’ve got thaianum, leucochilum, niveum, rothschildianum, and philippinense flasks going right now (from Sam Tsui) and a complex white paph flask (acquired today! From a fellow hobbyist).

I picked it up from Bill in person! I’m super fortunate that he lives about 1.5 hours away from my workplace. It was a fun after work excursion 🙂 I can’t wait to see it bloom.
