I see this as a failure of the moderating, to be honest. Political campaigns should not be intruding in this arena. As I said before, I came to this forum because of my love of orchids. Its only somewhat ok that I can ignore the fellow who is happy that a supporter of white supremacy is heading...

Wow! I didn't know that you could so easily "ignore" someone in this forum..! That's a great feature, now employed by me. I'm happy to stay, now that I don't need to read posts from someone making continual political comments.

If there is a way for me to block all posts from Clark, I will be happy to stay. Can someone please explain how to do that? BTW I have not looked at the political threads. Clark's post on the first page of this thread, with his signature shouting his support for Trump - that's what I am talking...

One of the plants I bought from Sue Adams, originally from Woodstream Orchids, apparently. An unusual staminode cap, so am also posting a close-up of that. This will have to be my last posting in the forum. I leave with a heavy heart, but I came to the forum for orchids, not politics, and I...

    Jason Fischer & Scarlet O'Hara

The colour is amazing, I agree. I wish Scarlet O'Hara were a faster grower. But I actually prefer the colour of the Jason Fischer.

    Double Kovachii

I'm astonished. The blooms only showed they were clearly fading yesterday, so they lasted 4 weeks. I haven't had them last beyond 18 to 20 days before.

    Jason Fischer & Scarlet O'Hara

Sorry, meant to say... Scarlet O'Hara is on the right.

    Jason Fischer & Scarlet O'Hara

Its taken ages for the Scarlet O'Hara bud to open, never seen a phrag bud take sooooo long. But happen to have a Jason Fischer (3N) in bloom as well, so thought it would be interesting to photograph them together, so one can compare the reds etc as the lighting isn't an issue. Scarlet O'Hara is...

    Yellow besseae - Interesting Deformity

Very interesting to see, have never seen that before..!

    Kovachii bird attack...

    Painful..!

    Double Kovachii

So it is now 17 days on from those first photos I posted, and the blooms are still fine, but have reached the end of any growth of course. One reached 22cm across, and the other 21cm. Brought the plant out of the greenhouse and into a cold room by an eastern facing window, seems happy there, and...

    Double Kovachii

I'll have to give this a try - I have also seen this problem, of young growths dying back. Thanks for the tip..! Kovachii likes to send up multiple new growths from each old growth, more so than any other phrag I have known.

    Phrag QF Naukana Kealoha

Beautiful, and better than Inca Treasure, to my eye. It gets away from the awkwardness of that first crossing with kovachii. These 2nd gen kovachii crosses seem exciting..!

    Phrag. tetzlaffianum

Lovely..! Still don't see these often.

    Double Kovachii

Yep, that spike is a lot longer than mine..! Gorgeous though.

    Double Kovachii

Funny, I haven't thought of my specimen as particularly compact. One spike is 13" long, the other is 14" (33cm & 36cm) in length. The blooms are currently just under and just over 19cm from petal tip to tip. Fairly pronounced curving backwards unfortunately.

    Double Kovachii

I live on the southwest coast of Scotland. The plant receives only the available natural light.

    Double Kovachii

As I understand it, in nature they live on hillsides that have water running down continually (more or less) over the roots, so watering these just once daily seems to me to be the minimum. I sometimes water them heavily twice daily. They seem to love it. The long-petalled species are the ones...
