Update: Please help! I'm such a klutz!!

The show is still two weeks away so I guess I still have time to make that final call. If all five of the remaining flowers aren't fully open I'll probably send the plant as is, but I may just change my mind at the last minute! I'm so annoyed with myself for being so clumsy because the plant is...

Thank you. I'll post a better picture when it's in full bloom.

Update: Please help! I'm such a klutz!!

Thank you SO much, that is very useful information for me. I was leaning in that direction but didn't want to bring up my conundrum with the AOS judges I know here as they will likely be at the show. The show will have both ribbon and AOS judging so I'll send it along and see what happens...

Update: Please help! I'm such a klutz!!

I'm hoping to send this first bloom seedling to an orchid show later in October. The flowers are opening quickly enough that I'm pretty sure there will be at least 3 fully open. Unfortunately I accidentally tore off one of the petals on the lower bloom, as you can see in the enclosed pictures...

Paph. Via Ojai 'Silvia' HCC/AOS x Bella Snow 'Glacial Moon'

The pouch is really quite small which makes it look a bit unusual, but endearing. The picture was taken facing the flower straight on.

    Any Guesses?

Oh my gosh that's so frustrating. I waited 7 years for my "stonei" to bloom only to discover that it's actually supardii, and a very nice one at that. But I still didn't have a stonei. I have no idea what you've got there but I wonder if the next bloom might be a bit more to your liking. I'd...

    Orchids 2024

That's a very special plant if Hadley chose it for you. How nice that you've kept it growing so well too.

This is a first bloom seedling of a cross made by Hadley Cash, acquired from Koopman Orchids after Hadley's passing. I wasn't sure what to make of the short wide pouch when it first opened but I've come to like it. The flower looks like it's smiling!

    Orchids 2024

So, so pretty. I have this one crossed with Bella Snow and it's just come into bloom. I will post the picture later. How long have you had your division? It looks very healthy and well grown.

    Paphiopedilum myanmaricum

Thank you for your kind words :) The plant roots do have a lot of aeration actually. I use a chunkier size of Orchiata in the bottom two thirds of the pot and then use a top dressing of finer bark so I don't have to water every day. The plant is in a 3" pot and has been growing well. It's on...

    New Paph Grower

Welcome from Canada's west coast where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean. It's also dull and damp here for most of the year so I have a grow room where my orchids grow quite happily on light stands. You have an amazing collection already and you'll learn a lot from the good folks on this...

    Paphiopedilum myanmaricum

Thank you. I appreciate everyone's kind words. It seems that we have a lot of animal lovers who also enjoy growing orchids.

Yes, it's really hard to say good-bye and adjust to whatever the new normal is going to be. His brother misses him very much too and is still calling and going through the house looking for him. Life carries on in the plant room however and I'm thankful to see new blooms popping up here and there.

    Paphiopedilum myanmaricum

Thank you. I grow it alongside my godefroyaes so it enjoys the same growing conditions. It's a compact plant like godefroyae but the flower is much larger.

Four months is such a short time. I'm so sorry that you didn't have more time with her. Junior was with us for 13 years and that doesn't even seem long enough.

Thank you, they really do take a piece of your heart. I wish there were words to describe it but there aren't.
