    Paphiopedilum culture on inert media

I think you hit the nail on the head here. When I 1st started with S/H in expanded clay pellets, I thought I needed to fertilize more, as there was no nutrients in the media. Then I learnt that actually, most organic medias provide very little nutrients, and thought maybe the micro organisms in...

    Paph. Psyche x wenshanense

I've got it on a heat mat which I think has really helped. The root growth has been really good this past 6 months. It's growing in a clear plastic water cooler cup. Oh and I lied, I also have P. thaianum, which has been slower growing, but is in the same conditions.

    Paph. Psyche x wenshanense

My only brachypetalum, but I think I need to buy more. 1st flowering, hoping the next one will have better shape. The new growth has already popped up. Grow it in semi hydro, no additional calcium.

    Cross idea for parnatanum

Maybe a cross with helenae? Aiming for something compact with spotted flowers?

    Paphiopedilum sukhakulii

Another 1st for me, two flowers from two growths, really healthy plant. Will probably reward myself with Paphiopedilum helenae and jackii.

    Ophrys apifera

Ophrys apifera growing on Reading University campus. The campus has a nice large area of meadow, quite rich in species, but this orchid is found on a scrubby patch of lawn very close to some recent building work. There are a couple of plants in flower, photos don't do them justice, but I have...

Mosses, weeds and ferns... Bad or good?

In time bryophytes can create quite a thick carpet over the top of the pot which can inhibit watering, and speed up break down of organic substances in the pot, as well as sponge up a lot of moisture, which isn't great for epiphytes.

    Sarco hartmanii

    Really, really nice!

    Scales!!

I agree with gonewild, do check they aren't dead, as scale will stay stuck onto the leaves after dying. I have been fooled before!
