    Hi Susie11. They will be good plants from Burnhams. I have two Bouley Bay that haven't yet flowered, just put them on the continual watering system so fingers crossed they should do better. Hope your other phrag purchases are doing well. Ed

    Phragmipedium grande

    This is,I think, a very good first flowering . The top bloom just opened yesteday so the petals should get considerably longer over the next few days. Hope you like Ed PS.. I snapped the " danglers " of the right hand one when i caught it in the car boot ooops!!!

    Hi Rick. Didn't mention it but I do use Epsom salts every so often. Many thanks for your explanation of the chemical distributions---- something I have never checked--- guess I must have just hit lucky!! Ed

    The water just drips onto the paved floor and helps the humidity stay at a fairly good level. It may drop during the evening to around 45 but during the day gets into the 90's.

    Before starting this system I top-dressed the phrags with blood and bone fertizer every 6 months so I will probably continue this in the New Year.

    You will find my simple irrigation system on the phrag section dated 10/29/2011. under the heading of phrag las varines. I know that not everyone can adapt this system especially when grown in the home but an alternative is to heavily water them every day and feed sparingly and not too often...

    Phrags are not greedy feeders so require very little fertilizer but keep them very wet by flushing out stagnant water from the compost every day. They will ( or should )get their oxygen needs from the fresh water. Ed
