The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

Sorry all, I didn't get a chance to post this last night. Here's a photo of the double-bowl thing I'm using for mazzies and hopefully will work for kovachii as well. Hope springs eternal....

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

LOL! Ya, I just checked Amazon, and they are pretty pricey. But if I increase my mazzie collection it will certainly need to be a serious consideration.

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

I hadn't thought of a water chiller - thus proving that I'm a moron LOL! I'll need to look into that.

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

It's super simple. Same basic principle as the double-pot method. My substrate is pumice and lecca because they wick well - but not too well - and seem to stay cool. The plants are in Rand's air cone pots sitting in 1' or so of water inside a medium sized glass mixing bowl (so I can monitor...

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

I actually thought about that. If the ice method fails, I might try it.

    Paphiopedilum rungsuriyanum

It's interesting that you're growing them so wet. I didn't get the impression from the literature available online that they were found in wet conditions. That's good information to know.

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

Hi Ray, Yes, I tried the unglazed pot method and unfortunately that didn't keep my cool growing mazzies cool enough. I even kept them in an air-conditioned room but, alas, they all croaked. Apparently, even 75f is too much for them to handle. I'm hopeful that kovachii is just finicky about...

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

That's a very interesting idea, and far less work than changing ice packs every day :)

International Financial Police? I didn't know there was such a thing. Maybe I'll try that as well if I don't get a response!

For Sale Tom Orchid - BUYER BEWARE

Just a quick update. I sent them a message a couple of days ago reminding them this it's March. So far no response, so I pinged them again this morning. I'll keep you posted.

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

Hi all; I live in south Florida, so my winter temps are often +70f, and summer is pretty much +gates of hell (f). Has anyone in a similar climate tried growing this one in semi-hydro over ice packs? I know it's ridiculous, but I have been experimenting with Masdevallia and it seems be working...

    What is this????

Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out what this is, but "rust spots" is a dead-accurate description of what I'm seeing - and, yes, they have spread. UUGH! I'm breaking out the Bayer Advanced and spraying everything!!! Thanks again :)

    What is this????

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. It's weird because my humidity is pretty high and the plant has been soaked in Physan and sprayed multiple times, but the damage keeps appearing.

    What is this????

Hi everyone; Can anyone out there tell me what is eating at my P. tigrinum? I've tried all kinds of things on it, but nothing seems to get rid of it. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

For Sale Tom Orchid - BUYER BEWARE

I'm not rescinding my previous warning yet, but in fairness I am updating it to advise that the vendor has contacted me regarding the pending orders. He has advised that the orders will ship in March, which is an awfully long time for orders placed in June and July. But I am prepared to wait...

For Sale Tom Orchid - BUYER BEWARE

Agreed! I'll stick to domestic now whenever possible. CITES and phyto is a pain anyway. I must say that the 2 initial orders I placed with him were sent immediately and the plants were really good. I thought I had a new favorite vendor. I don't know what happened but, based on reviews...

For Sale Tom Orchid - BUYER BEWARE

Hi all, I'm not sure if I'm in the right section of the board, but I just want to give everyone a heads up to beware of this vendor in Thailand. I have had 2 large orders pending with him for nearly 6 months and his excuses for not shipping them are just garbage. It's pretty clear he has no...

    Kratky method?

OK, so I'll pray for some new roots :)

    Kratky method?

Hi all; Here are some pics of the new mini setups. I'm keeping about 1/4" of nutrient solution in the bottom of the trays (and Kelpmax, per instructions). Most of the pots/baskets are filled with 100% leca, but there are a couple larger ones with rock wool as well. They all seem to be...
