I have the same cross by same parents but have not bloomed it yet. I will try to remember to smell it when it blooms. I'm guessing mine needs some more size but not sure. The parents are different sized plants. What is the leaf span on yours?

    Greenhouses?

I had a greenhouse back in the 90s that I built myself using treated 2x4's and 2x6's and corrugated fiberglass panels. North walls and bottom 4 ft of sides were insulated, which I recommend if you live in a cold climate. I ran heat ducts from my home furnace into drain pipe laterals (has big...

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

I use river rock quite a bit. I like lava rock, but it often tears up roots at repotting. But from an oxygen standpoint, I think that has to be one of the best.

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

I kind of wonder about that. They are growing well, though. Came out of flask in September 2019, so 16 months. The biggest one has over 6" leafspan. I have another compot with mostly medium sized between the largest and smallest in this compot.

Yeah. That makes sense. My main rationale for this one was that it had 10+ growths around 4" in size, and was in a 4" pot. The result I pictured in my head was this amazing plant with 10+ spikes (wish I could share that picture). It's been in this pot since around March 2020 It has about 6...

Sorry, I was confused. This one is 6 x 9. The smaller size that I use for compots sometimes is 4.5 x 6.

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

One more thing. For moss lovers, moss is almost automatic. The example I posted does not have much moss out of the ones I have growing this way. It's common to be solid moss at the top.

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

Thanks for update. I get confused about terms. Is LECA the same as Hydroton or are they different brands? I have tried 100% and it works, like you say it can be wobbly at first especially on small plants. Also wobbly when you initially plant if you plant with dry cubes before watering...

It's a bark mix. Medium bark from Lowe's I believe, with small Orchiata bark and top dressed with grodan rockwool mini cubes. I used a plastic organizer from Target bathroom section, that I drilled holes in. Inspiration came from Tom Kalina's tray culture method but mine is smaller (4.5" x...

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

Here are a few dalessandroi plants I've been growing in a mix of rockwool cubes and hydroton. They seem to like the combo.

First bloom to open. It has two spikes currently.

Yes. I have three or four from that class. The one in spike will be the second to bloom. The first one that bloomed (in this pic) had a very short stem and not much color but a very big bloom. Not as colorful as others I have seen. The Here is a picture of it. The bloom opened up a little...

I think it's highly variable. One of mine bloomed earlier this year and took 8 months from when I first knew for sure that it was a spike forming and not a leaf. I have another one that is in spike now (in picture). It has developed that spike over the past couple months.

Phrag Acker's Berry (kovachii #2 x Waunakee Sunset 'Cherry')

This plant has a long stem and I like the color.

I pulled the oxalis. It seems to hold pretty long. The oldest of the two blooms in the first pic was open for about 3 weeks before the other one opened. Right now, I have two new blooms open on the same spike and a branch has formed with a bud. This plant is very prolific and holds blooms well.

    Rockwool Cubes + LECA

Love your chart, Ray! I have used 100% cubes, 50/50 w/ LECA and also a few other combos with perlite charcoal and even bark. Your graph is similar to what I think is going on in my pots in my basement. But outdoors the pots seem to dry out faster even when humidity is 80%. I like the LECA in...
