    Parvis and Oyster Shell

If it was coarse enough, you could grow in 100% shells without any problem. I use canunda shell..... https://www.newcraft.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Canunda_Shell_Grit.png ........at about 30% in the mix for niveum thaianum and leucochilum and they are doing very well. It is a soft...

    Dendrobium tetragonum var. giganteum

Berthold, that's not var giganteum. If it has a sweet scent it is tetragonum var tetragonum, if it has no scent or not much it is var melaleucaphyllum. Var giganteum has yellow spots and splashes on the petals.

    Catt schilleriana

No Tom, it's a winter grower like tenebrosa and jongheana. Shoots grow over winter and roots grow over summer. You need to give it some water over the winter to keep it plump but it's mainly using it's reserves to grow the new shoots. Roots come after flowering in spring. If you remember those...

    Paph vietnamense

The rippling on the leaf margins is normal.

    Paph vietnamense

I think that we should not allow weak single growth plants to flower. Particularly if it has older leaves that are not in perfect health and colour. They will reach a tipping point as the plant uses it's reserves in a desperate effort to flower. The flowers will be sub-par and the plant will...
