    For those who love miniatures

Well, I did it! Using a microscope to make sure I got the pollen in the right spot, I crossed Schoenorchis fragrans (plant pictured) with neofinetia falcata. It has been a few weeks and a seedpod has showed up! This doesn't mean the cross will take 100%, but it is a start. My goal is...

    Monster of a Don Wimber

An AOS judge did point out that several have had larger NS, but that it is the width and color that make this particular one stand out. I've seen many of Chuck Acker's DW 3N plants bloom out very large, but without the same petal width or deep color.

    Monster of a Don Wimber

NS 11.1 cm (same as the kovachii x besseae hybrid), petal width is 3.7cm when ruler is held flat against petal (didn't do that in the pic). I've never seen one bigger. Unfortunately, the pouch was de-formed this time around, but it usually blooms without that problem. This is a 2nd...

    Emma Fischer

Baby update! Here's a shot at 1 week old! You are right Tadd, exactly right. She's got big anime eyes. I will have to dress her up as hello kitty for Halloween. We are thoroughly enjoying being parents!

Ever have one of those days....

That is awesome Tadd. I know the feeling as I used to teach in Japan. Being appreciated by your students is one of the most rewarding feelings you can get! I truly miss the days of teaching, but then again am continuing to do so through orchid lectures and classes we offer at our shop... so...

I have about had it with faded labels

We normally use a thermal printer for our label, but for pens, nothing holds longer than PILOT pens, hands down. Labels will break from old age and sun before the ink fades. We've had labels last over 10 years with this marker...

    Emma Fischer

If you're wondering why I haven't been posting a lot lately, here's why! My first child, Emma Michelle Fischer, was born on 5/15. She really looks like her mother! Time will tell if papa's traits come through! She is a back-cross (Japanese x Half Japanese), similar to the breeding technique...

    Let's post random videos.

http://www.orchidweb.com/repotvid.aspx You are all going to LOVE this video. The next video I'm putting up is where to cut a phalaenopsis spike (as we get calls and emails about this every week!).

    Happy Birthday, Jason Fischer!

Thanks guys! I'd better go make some new hybrids today to mark the occasion!

    Phrag. Barbara LeAnn

That one turned out very nice. In fact, this is the best Barbara LeAnn cross I've ever seen. Each one so far has been impressive!

    Dear Mr. Jason Fischer....

Marco, Thanks for the purchase! I picked you the best I could find. That stuartiana seems to grow quite different than the regular form. The others I had were looking weak so I took them off the site until they recover. With neos, variegation is increased with higher light. From now...

    malipoense cross from Chicago show

Yes, this is our plant. It's a new hybrid we made, and that is the first plant to have flowered. The cross is Paph. Bel Royal (rothschildianum x kolopakingii) x malipoense. It is basically like a Harold Koopowitz with shorter petals and darker striations.

    Phrag. besseae

    and why~~~ is that?

    conco-bellatulum

It looks like a wenshanense to me. In fact, I agree that wenshanense is a seperate species as I've never seen a man-made conco-bellatulum that looks anything like a wenshanense. The only way I think wenshanense could be a natural hybrid is from thousands of years or more of evolution (sibs...

Ok ladies, you know you all want it...

Well guys... if you haven't figured it out by the location, that's my posting ;) From what I know, many times fragrance companies will extract the fragrance and put a very, very small % into the actual perfume that goes out for sale. The main goal of course is to mimic, or many times enhance...

    Now playing?

OK guys, I bet this has never hit this thread. My favorite Japanese performer, Agatsuma. I met him when he did a small concert here in MN. We were so lucky to have a Japanese super star come to such an event. I got a chance to converse a bit and get a CD autographed :). Enjoy...
