    AOS Decline

It is easy to pay membership fees and AQ+ on the website (aos.org). I do agree that it should be easier to notify when such subscriptions are finished.

    Phrag. Red Wing 'Red King'

That is very nice! how is the growth habit? a lot like besseae, climbing out of the pot?

    Paph. sukhakulii ??

'Jac' was a vinicolored flower that created 'flame' callosum types which have very distinctive bold spotting on the petals and often spots or lines in the dorsal sepal. Typically the flowers have a large range of color from dark to light. Argus is a possibility but it is rarely used in...

tell me something about my roth.

Anna, the quick answer is that MM= Mont Millais. MM x Chen was a roth cross and two of the siblings were crossed (x sib). This tells us what the strain of roth this was produced from. Mont Millais is one of the better roth plants, at least before the best of its progeny.

    AOS Decline

Tim, I have been growing orchids for almost 40 years and have been an AOS member since 1978. During that period of time I have seen the large growth and ensuing diminished AOS. The reason are really pretty simple. 1) loss of large orchid nurseries with big scale hybridizing programs 2)...

    Paph. sukhakulii ??

It is a hybrid of sukahakulii with a Maudae type evolved from callosum 'Jac'.

    Anybody here with Balls???

when I first saw the title, I was thinking of Paph Harrisianum "G.S. Ball" which is also known as Harry Balls by some......LOL.

    Paph. ciliolaire

This is one of those species that seems difficult to grow for a long period of time. At one time, the imports were pretty common and the plants were pretty large when imported. It certainly isn't common outside of the Philippines these days.

    Wow!!

The AOS does have a cheaper version on line that might work better for international members that want the magazine on time. I believe that it is $65. compared to $105.

    Phragmipedium x colombianum

Phrag manzurii has greenish yellow petals.....the pouch is pink and the staminode yellow. It is the size and shape of schlimii....I think that manzurii, fischeri and schlimii are very closely related......varieties of schlimii.

    hybrids registration

My impression is that prior to the 1980's most of the hybrids were traditional complex bulldog types. With the discovery of several new species including sukhakulii, vinicolored callosum, etc and the ensuing CITES1 listing, all of these species were imported in huge numbers, then selectively...

    Phragmipedium x colombianum

While judging at a recent event in southern Colombia, a hybrid of manzurii x besseae was exhibited. David Manzur was also at the event. The flower was similar to Phrag Hanne Popow in size and color, but had distinctive bi-colored petals with a strong horizontal line of seperation between the...

Can some one please tell me?

It is claimed that tranlienianum is native to China, hence CITES documentation from China is valid.

more confusion... now regarding Phrag. Grande..

How are we to know which varieties of longifolium and caudatum were used in the past? Who is going to determine correctly identified hartwegii as opposed to longifolium or other varieties of longifolium. This is past the point of ridiculous........leave your tags alone and let the registrar...

    Paph.NMX4560

There should be plenty of variation in such a cross......

Phalaenopsis Liu's Bright Ruby 'Tina' HCC

very pretty flowers and nice display.....my guess is the cupping of the petals cut the score down somewhat.

A Pair of Draculas: vampira and tubeana

It means "little dragon" and refers to the aspect of the sepals.

raisin jack x gloriosum x maudia vinicolor x charlesworthii

that makes the most sense, we don't see too many next generation charlesworthii hybrids.....

    Phrag.Jason Fischer

The plant and the flowers are entirely different ........I find Jason Fischer easier to grow, it is a larger plant and stays in the pot better than besseae which loves to climb out. Also, the color is entirely different orange-red versus dark red. The next generation Scarlet O'Hara is much more...

    Phal Pylo's Giant Luedde no4

That's a very attactive hybrid....gigantea hybrids certainly are worth growing and breeding with.
