    Neofinetia falcate Hisui

These are seed propagated, so there are bound to be some variations but Hisui is one of those that bear lots of flowers. In the above photo from this year, I had about 5-7 flowers per spike and this is considered poor performance. In good years, I had easily 10-12 flowers per spike. Roughly...

    Phrag besseae flavum

    Great photos of beautiful flowers!

    Paph Enzan Salty Noble

The color pretty much stays the same for a few weeks, then gets lighter as the flower ages. These can be vastly different from plant to plant since they are from seeds.

    Paph wolterianum

There are lots of discussions about this in the old threads, I think. ;)

    Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

Such a beautiful plant for sure!

ID of fairly common Hybrid clone

Do you know why the nurseries are closing down on the island? Is it that no younger people wanting to take over the ones that retire, or is it the cost of running the business does not really make sense anymore? I mean with the moderate climate on the island I would think that the heating (which...

ID of fairly common Hybrid clone

No, the thing on Madeira is insigne. They are very common and apparently grows very well as if they are native there. At the cutflower market, the most common were Invincible and insigne. and they were very cheap.

tranlienianum 'Weitas Creek' HCC x 'Minion #12' AM

The flower is leaning forward closer to the camera. Tony can tell us how the size compares to the average. :)

    Neofinetia falcate Hisui

In terms of the number of growths, no, it's about the same. It just have a few more leaves and a couple of new shoots at their base. Otherwise it grows well and blooms the best. My other neos readily produce new growths and bloom about once or twice a year.

    Neofinetia falcate Hisui

Yeah, I really like green flowers.

ID of fairly common Hybrid clone

The ones I saw were in perfect conditions and so I thought they were grown locally. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see lots of insigne with multiple flowers per pot that many homes had on their front yard and stairs.

Tolumnia - best time, or not, to repot

I'm not sure about absolutely no repot period, but as Carl says above, it is best to repot any plants when they are actively growing or just started growing roots. Many things said about orchid growing is just old saying that is not really accurate and the same goes about Tolumnia. I used to...

    Paph.Shun-Fa Golden

True. I had a few that were super fragrant. I had one had no scent. People report that their malipoense is not scented. My limited experience with malipoense is that they are not really fragrant or only slightly so if they are. Hangianum is supposed to be very fragrant.

ID of fairly common Hybrid clone

This flower shop at Funchal had a lot of complex hybrid Paphs. Quite a few kinds but none with a name. Each pot had a few flowers and only cost around 40. This was a few years ago. I have not seen complex paphs in bloom sold anywhere here in Germany this spring. I prefer to have ID tag on...

What to Do with Tuberous Begonia Waking up too Early?

I have Begonia odorata and not those with giant sized show flower type. I bought a few tubers back in April and planted them in May. They started flowering as early as June and the flowering got better and better over the summer. They are supposed to wither down once the cold weather sets in...

    Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

Thank you. Sorry to hear that you struggle with this species. This one has been trouble-free for me. Both this and Neos are considered easy to grow and bloom generally. I did fail with the Minmaru shima, the miniature form with variegated leaves, though. I had a few and none lasted more than...

    Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

Outcross. I still have one pod in the fridge. One smaller pod was split, and I sprinkled the contents near the mother plant. I don't have high hope that I will see anything happening this way, but was just curious in what I might get just in case.

    Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

It seems to be very happy in Germany! :)

    Sedirea (Phalaenopsis) japonica

It is powerful yet not disturbing. Just the right mix of sweet citrusy and spicy (clove or a bit of cinnamon? I can't really pinpoint which spice but it's there, right?) creating overall very pleasant and refreshing scent. It is easily a highlight of my day! The flowers last much longer due to...
