It's been weeks in the making...

Welcome from LA! You mentioned keeping lizards when you were younger, what species did you keep? Just lizards or other critters too?

    Bulbophyllum (Hapalochilus) dolichoglottis

Yep! Great seller, cool plant. If you're into unusual minis this is a rare opportunity. BTW happy birthday Chris!!

    Angraecum brongniartianum

    You're welcome. Happy to help!

    Encyclia garciana

Very nice! I've always been tempted to give this one a try and then forget about it when I order

    Angraecum brongniartianum

No problem! The "newer" recognized name is just a little easier to spell/pronounce :D

    Angraecum brongniartianum

I hadn't heard of this species before, so I had to look it up! It's synonymous with Ang. eburneum ssp. superbum

    Deep South besseae

eaborne, Where in LA are you? I don't currently have a greenhouse. I'm still in school, so my sensitive plants move four times a year with me between school and my family's house. Most of my Catts, Vandas, and larger Bulbos. I leave home and just set a timer for watering during the warm months...

    Angraecum sesquipedale

Congrats! Mine put on a bunch of growth this year but still no flowers.

    Epi. nocturnum

I'd say menthol is a pretty good description of the scent. Mine is usually successive. I'd say it usually produces about 3-4 flowers per spike before it dries up. It always tends to have a flower or two on it, and it seems that the larger, more mature growths tend to produce more flowers.

    Epi. nocturnum

Does yours smell like Mentholatum chest rub!? Mine blooms fairly often, and I always get a pretty strong whiff when I pass it.

    Thanks everyone!

    Deep South besseae

I honestly am not sure why people said it would be more difficult in the south now that I've grown it. My only guess is that the people who I'd questioned were long time vendors from around the Gulf Coast, so maybe they tried this species early on and now that we have places like OZ, the...

    Deep South besseae

For years, I was called crazy for wanting to grow this species in South Louisiana. I've always been told it was impossible to be successful in such a warm climate. Today, I'm finally able to prove the naysayers wrong. This is the second blooming attempt for this plant, I believe. I bought it in...

A Pair of Draculas: vampira and tubeana

These are outstanding! I'd love to be able to grow Draculas. What are your temps like in their growing area?

Looking for rare, uncommon, strange, unusual orchids

Same here! Eric, where's the grandiflorum album posted? I must have missed it.

Looking for rare, uncommon, strange, unusual orchids

I just assumed they were referring to Bulb. kubahense, the first two photos in the link since it's not readily available.

Looking for rare, uncommon, strange, unusual orchids

Orchid Boy- Look into Lepanthes and some of the other less mainstream Pleurothallids. Scaphosepalums are another really cool genus that isn't grown terribly often. I've had luck with a few of them in W-I conditions. Others, like mini Bulbos (especially PNG ones if you can find them are...

Getting Cattleya growths to branch or fill pot?

I've heard of people cutting the rhizome near a dormant eye, causing the dormant eye to come out of dormancy and creating a more full plant. I'd advise you to be careful when doing this, though. This is essentially the same thing as dividing, so make sure both "divisions" have enough pseudobulbs...

    Euchile citrina

Thank Nat and Stone! A local grower has been very successful with Enc. mariae in his greenhouse, so I think I'll give this one a try. Nat, I still have you Dyakias too btw. This semester has been super busy, so I haven't been around much. I'll send you a PM when I'm home for Christmas.

    Euchile citrina

Very nice! I've always enjoyed this species. I'll give it a try when I get a greenhouse.
