    Cymbidium Spike?

I noticed this roundish dark colored pointed growth on my cymbidium recently. Is this a spike? I sure hope it is, because it is the blooming season (winter) for most cymbidiums. New growths are usually green from what I know, not dark colored. The growth also isn't flat, it's round all the way...

    Cattleya Violacea Var. Semi Alba

I think those temperatures should work for you! Happy growing!

    Paphiopedilum Lowii

This is a better picture of it at night when it has opened more. Simply stunning!

    Cattleya Violacea Var. Semi Alba

It's a warm grower, so the temperature in my greenhouse doesn't get below 65 degrees at night, with daytime temps of around 80 degrees.

    Paphiopedilum Lowii

First bloom of my lowii, it had another spike growing along this one but it died, but one flower is better than none! Very elegant looking!

    Bulbophyllum Medusae

I was concerned that it only had one bulb as well, but I saw that there were lots of healthy roots underneath the medium, as well as one root tip sticking out from the bottom of the pot, so I think it will be fine. The flower has died today as a matter of fact. I hope your medusae will thrive...

    Bulbophyllum Medusae

I found this little gem at my local orchid society meeting today, it was in bloom and at a cheap price, so I bought it! I think it's the 'miami' clone because of the speckles on the flowers. It's so frilly and cute! I have read about medusae care before and I know about temperatures, but not...

    C. Maxima & Zygopetalum Artur Elle

Two very nice orchids currently in bloom. I love the ruffled lip and lavender color of the cattleya maxima. What I found surprising is that they both have almost the same type of smell, but the zygopetalum has a more potent fragrance than the cattleya.

    Habenaria Medusa In Bloom!

It has bloomed now, and it's a spectacular sight! There are 11 buds and flowers. They will keep opening and getting bigger as the days progress.

    Slc. Candy Sparks

Your Slc. Candy Sparks is also very cool looking with the red/pink/yellow flares in the petals! Very nice mixed colors. It's interesting to see what kind of results you will get by buying seedlings not knowing what the flowers will look like.

    Slc. Candy Sparks

I would say that light is about the same for them. Mine was growing outside the whole summer in partial shade/dappled sunlight for the majority of the day, and surprised me by pushing out this bud.

    Slc. Candy Sparks

This one came directly from Fred Clarke of SVO himself last year. Very cute miniature orchid if you want to grow small plants. It has finally bloomed with one flower, and its colorations are stunning!

    Paph Lowii Double Spiking

They are definitely spikes at this point, both of them grew out a bit more so they are more visible. The fuzziness of them and coloration makes it a tell tale sign of spikes developing.

    Paph Lowii Double Spiking

Will do! Strange, I have never heard of lowii being fragrant before but I'll smell it to see if it's true. It's definitely odd if your lowii is fragrant sometimes but not other times. Maybe the fragrance is influenced by varying temperatures, light, watering?

    Paph Lowii Double Spiking

I just found two spikes on my paph lowii that I got about a month ago, yay!! My lowii spiking should be able to make up for the time I thought my micranthum was in sheath, but wasn't. Unfortunately, it looks like one spike seems to have been chewed on a bit by an insect :( I have it circled in...

    Impressive Phragmipedium Cardinale!

Thank you big923cattleya!! It probably won't be too soon before it grows into a large specimen. The person who got the culture award for their cardinale at the CIOS Speakers Day grew it from a seedling for about 2-3 years, so hopefully mine is just as vigorous in the years to come!

    Impressive Phragmipedium Cardinale!

I posted the first bloom of this phrag a few weeks ago. The first bloom had nice quality with no recurving twisted petals, but color was a bit pale. The second bloom opened just today, and it's more fantastic than the first! Its pink color has intensified much more and it looks like the side...

    Paph. Micranthum In Sheath!!

Thanks for the helpful info on temperatures, but I am sorry to say that the "sheath" that I thought was developing turned out to be a regular leaf😢. The little black thing that seemed to be coming out of the center was just a tiny piece of bark that somehow lodged itself in there so perfectly...

    Paph. Micranthum In Sheath!!

Thanks, fall is approaching here soon so I'm wondering if I could leave it outside longer than my other warm growing orchids, since it can tolerate cool temps of 40-60 degrees in the fall/winter. The place where I plan to put it in winter is my garage growing area, where day temps are at 70...
