    Orchids Exposed to Radiation

there you go letting science get in the way of a good opinion again Rob... actually Rob, I totally agree with you. Mahon, I think your idea is interesting, but I'm pretty certain you're in over your head, and working with radiation is something that shouldn't be dabbled with. I still...

    Orchids Exposed to Radiation

How exactly are you planning on quantifying how much radiation you deliver? Have you planned how many Gray will be delivered to the plant? And furthermore, how will you ensure that it is delivered evenly to the whole plant? Or are you going to "gamma knife" them? You should really talk to...

Ever wanted to name a cross?

My wife took a quick look at this contest and started spewing obscenities as the suggested name, mainly because she thinks it'd be funny to have Paph !@#$!@#^! !#@$!#@$!#$. So in honor of that, I think it should be Paph Tourette Syndrome. I'll give you a dollar if you name it that.

Ever wanted to name a cross?

Rob, are you giving the plant to the winner???? Or are you keeping it for yourself? I'm still thinking of a name...but I'd be more inclined to bid if I get a plant out of it too.

    Bloom Photo Backdrops?

it's all about exposure. the human eye is able to process a much wider range of light levels than a camera (film or digital). with a photo, you get about 2 "stops" worth of light (as in f-stops). with the human eye, you get about 5-6. part of this has to do with the brain processing the...

    Saving a contaminated mother flask?

Any of the organophosphates (such as malathion) have known toxicity to humans and can cause rather dramatic symptoms (excess salivation, tearing, urination, and defectation) along with cardiac difficulties and death. here's a link for the medically inclined...

    Saving a contaminated mother flask?

whatever Heather, we're gonna find a way to kick you out first. :poke: now that'd be ironic, getting kicked off your own website. :) but back on topic, fungal contamination is bad news. you should probably do a very thorough cleaning of your entire lab area with something that's...

    Saving a contaminated mother flask?

amphotericin is also used in people with severe fungal infections. tends to be reserved for pretty sick folks in pretty limited settings though. there's obviously way too many doctors on this forum...we should start kicking them out, starting with the non-MDs, of course :p

    A new guess that primary

Yeah, and that customer was me! It was named for my recently deceased aunt. Her plant arrived in bloom the week before she died, and she truly cherished it. So this one is definitely special to me and my family.

Water in the crown of Phrags.

This has been a very interesting discussion so far, and I've certainly learned a lot. One thing I will say though is that plants in the wild rot and die all the time. In the home, we expect close to 100% disease-free survival of our plants, and want them to all be growing briskly and flowering...

    what does f1,f2,f3...etc..etc..

From my limited knowledge, there is of course a finite limit to how many generations you should breed something, but some degree of breeding also results in improved characteristics. It's kinda like the Spanish Hapsburgs... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/pda/A3152765?s_id=1 note the rise...

    New PrimeAgra

I just got my shipment of new PrimeAgra from Ray, and promptly potted 2 plants in it. I also got one plant from him that was already in new PrimeAgra. So far it seems to live up to the claims (less dust, smoother, more uniform consistency, less floaty). Further thoughts to follow once I have...

Anyone know anything about Epi ilense problems?

Well I didn't have peroxide, so I used Physan, but otherwise I did exactly like you suggested. They claim it's bactericidal, and I didn't want to wait. This is the picture from this morning, 10 hours postop. As you can see, I discovered a new leaf inside the bad one...hopefully it can survive!

Anyone know anything about Epi ilense problems?

If so...help! I just noticed this on the apical leaf this morning...but just involving the tip, which I trimmed. When I got home, it had spread to involve most of the leaf. The brown part is very limp. The rest of the leaves are fine. Any advice?

    New Prime-Agra... hmmmmm

I ordered some primeagra (new stuff) not too long ago, so I'll post my opinions once it arrives. I've still got some of the old stuff so I can do a comparison.
