Welcome from Madeira! I'm new here too, but I've been into orchids for about 25 years ago. I was an intern in 2000 at Longwood Gardens and got to manage all of the orchid houses while the head gardeners took vacations, so I really found my love of orchids right there in your backyard.

    Paphiopedilum Harold Koopowitz

These two are from the same cross that produced your lovely plant. They are more green at opening, but fade to the more golden tones you find in Roth. One clone was more yellow. (I lost both of these in the freeze, but I thankfully now have another sibling of the same cross here in Madeira.)

    Greetings from Madeira!

My birth state! I'm a UK grad as well, but haven't been around much in the last 25 years!

    Paphiopedilum barbigerum var aureum

These are great Darlene! Maybe a little pollen needs to make its way over that charlesworthii 'sandowiae' (and then that seed pod needs to make its way to Madeira!) Little Trouble alba has a nice ring to it! Good growing, as always.

    Historic Hybrid ID

I think we're all in the same neighborhood! Thanks for your suggestions. I would have to agree with either Paph. Bingleyense (Paph. charlesworthii x Paph. Harrisianum) or King Aurthur (Paph. Bingleyense x Paph. Monsieur de Curte) but we may never know! The slightly mottled leaves would be...

    Historic Hybrid ID

I'm curious if anyone has any speculation on what this (presumably very old) hybrid might be. Here in Madeira you find some very old plants that likely came here more than a century ago with British aristocratic families. These plants have been divided time and time again and the history has...

    Biofungicides/ Growth Promoters

Thanks for your input! This all makes sense. I supply young plants and plugs in the US to cut flower growers and we are in talks with Koppert about offering some of their products to our customers who are generally adverse to traditional horticultural chemicals. I just learned that the fungi...

    Biofungicides/ Growth Promoters

I am curious if any studies have been done with the application of various beneficial fungal and bacterial on Paph. roots and leaves, or if any ones has an anecdotal experience. In America some are registered as fungicides (RootShield,Trianum, both Trichoderma based products), whereas others...

Newly Arrived Habenaria Medusa!! Care Tips?

Sarah is super smart about Habenarias. She is to be trusted. I have succeed with complete dryness after dormancy sets (fall and winter) and then standing in pure water during growth and flowering (spring and summer). I haven't used the baggie method, but just one look at her plants and you can...

    Greetings from Madeira!

Thanks Darlene! Likewise! I've come here for a bit of information in the past but now that I'm back in the game I thought it was time to properly join!

    Greetings from Madeira!

Greetings! I am and American who moved to Madeira Island, Portugal nearly 2 years ago. I left my orchid collection behind and was in the process of moving my collection here when the heater went out on my friend's greenhouse (in Vermont, in winter) and most of the plants died. So I'm starting...
