Nifty timelapse of several paphs opening/spikes elongating

It surprised me, too, the first time I saw it! My husband made a time lapse of my phrag grande blooming last spring and it was all over the place, too!

I love the way the bob and weave about!

    Phrag. Schroderae var. roseum ‘Freels’

Very interesting…the pic I posted above was before the bloom fully matured and it did change appearance just a bit more. The first bloom (the one in the picture) just dropped off today and the second is barely open so it will be a while before I can get a fully mature bloom pic. I will post it...

    Paphiopedilum Julius (

I noticed that leaf color difference, too. I actually ordered those botanical leds spike producers, and I think it was your recommendation on another thread that led me to them. I checked their spectrum with my par/spectrometer when they arrived and they seem really great so I definitely think...

    Phrag. Schroderae var. roseum ‘Freels’

That seems very plausible! More so than, like you said, that this guy is 50% caudatum 😉

    Phrag. Schroderae var. roseum ‘Freels’

I just placed (and received) my first order from Woodstream this fall and I think I recall seeing that division listed on their availability list, in fact!

    Phrag. Schroderae var. roseum ‘Freels’

Seems like a fast growing guy, for sure! From starting a fan to blooming a fan in a year is a nice rate. I dont have him in a clear pot (yet) but he has a lot of roots trying to come up to the surface so I am guessing there is a lot of root growth that I cant see. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Thank you all so much!! I am going to update my record book to reflect the Sedenii name.

    Phrag. Schroderae var. roseum ‘Freels’

Purchased with this tag as a division with a single, small fan. Grew this second (now blooming) fan in about a year. I like the curly edges, but I had thought schroderae had longer petals? Still pretty, even without long petals, of courses!

    Paphiopedilum Julius (

It looks so healthy and tidy! Mine is kinda of a sprawl-y beast. I had to remove it from the case I grow it inside as, between the leaves all over the place and the blooms all over the place, it just wasnt fitting! (Ruler is an 18” one, for scale)

Paph. Crouching Tiger: double spike watch

It is looking like each spike will have 6 blooms…assuming they all open.

    Paphiopedilum Julius (

The back of the blooms are starting to get an avocado green hue to them; this is my first Julius blooming and I know you have a LOT of paphs 😁, do you grow Julius and have you seen a green back on the blooms?
