I was unpleasantly surprised to find this on the leaf of my Bv Little Birds last night while watering. It had been about a week since I watered and truly looked at it, and I haven't seen any evidence of pests anywhere else in the meantime. It looks suspiciously like something chewed on it though! It sits up on an upside down pot to be close to the light and I have a vague recollection of it falling off the pot recently, but I doubt it was violent enough to cause this. I'm in my third trimester of pregnancy now though, and my brain is essentially scrambled eggs, so I could be forgetting something.
It has a couple new growths starting and one has some roots that are about to grow right out of the pot. Should I pull it out and look for a snail since it wouldn't hurt to up-pot it anyway?

Congratulations on the baby first of all!!! With the orchid I think it it fine. If you see other bugs then definitely or if you see the same thing pop up on other plants. With the repot maybe wait till it drops it's flowers so less stress.

When I think of it with my plants this actually looks like a burn from the window due to the sun. Was the leaf pressing on the window and got hot? Best of luck

Thanks!!
I will wait till flowers drop, which should be fairly soon, I think. I'm always a little nervous about messing with the cattleya types' roots, so I want to do it at an optimal time for sure.
I know I always post pictures of it in front of the window, but I just set it up there during watering time, haha. Well, and now, because I have it separated just in case. It's normally under lights about 12 hours a day. Could still be a burn though! A couple days ago I went to mist the blooms and my spray bottle had been messed with by my toddler, so I absolutely blasted it with a hard stream of water instead. The damage looks fresh enough that it could be related to that.

I am sure you are better than you think. Although I do reminder the brain fog of the third trimester being a bear.

I also vote sunburn. The changing seasons increase the risk of sunburn, especially for windows growers. Between fewer clouds and the changing position of the sun, I always have sunburn incidents.
