The next three plants were shared with me from our own Aquacorps. So, I thought I'd share some photos that Donna took with you. I take no credit for these flowers it was all Russ.

The first photo is of the absolute best Paph. spicerianum that I have ever seem. There is one flower in bloom and another bud coming along on another growth. The breeding is out of The Orchid Zone and the cross is 'Boss' x 'St. Elsewhere'. This dorsal is very flat and I believe that it has been open for a while. And, let's clear this up right from the start. This is indeed spicerianum and not Bruno.

The second photo if of Paph. Doll's Kobold. This is also breeding out of the Orchid Zone. The cross is charlesworthii 'Hooded' x henryanum Gandolf'.

The third and last photo is of Paph Little by Little 'War Eagle' HCC/AOS. The cross is (Doll's Kobald x Tyke). I don't know what year this was awarded, but maybe someone can jump in and educate us. There are five, yes five flowers blooming on this plant all at the same time. Once, again I want to give Russ all the credit for growing and flowering this plant.

Needless to say, all three are lovely flowers. But the spicerianum is more than this - it's an eye-catcher.:drool::drool:

Doll's Kobold :drool: because I have this cross too!
spicer :drool::drool: and Sam told me there are no spicers with a flat dorsal, should I have worded it modern or current trend?
Little By Little :drool::drool::drool::drool: because I don't have this cross YET ..... color & markings - fabulous! and one  for each bloom!!!

Super plants Bob. I'm assuming you're the proud owner of all three? The spice doesn't have a "flat" dorsal the angle of the photo from down pointing up is missleading Rose. Still nice.

That Paph Little by Little is really nice! I'd like to have one of those.

Would it be possible to get a photo of the spicerianum straight on, like the Little by Little is? It's hard to see what it looks like this way, as opposed to the way most people look at their Paphs. Why does best = flat in Paphs?

Isn't this great, coming from the person that's not picking the right words ....

IMO it's a matter of opinion, if that makes any sense! It's the nature of the species to recurve, to me that's what makes it a spicer! From a viewing perspective, the lesser recurve or wider dorsal (is that a better description?) changes the balance of the flower. I'm actually straddling the fence on this one. In the case of henrys or charlies I definitely like the wider, no recurve dorsals, IMO, show that dorsal off by gosh!
Does that make any sense?

I kind of with you on this one, Rose, at least when it comes to appreciating the straight species. What makes the flatter (less recurving) dorsal desirable to me is its breeding use.

Wow! Thanks guys! Nice to know some well-respected growers agree with me! I tend to like the more 'natural' form of a species, and if breeding changes the distinguishing chracteristics too much, it actually degrades from the species, rather than improve it. A spicerianum must have that nice recurved dorsal to be a good example of the species. This flower is nice, but only for breeding, in my opinion.

The Doll's Kobold and Little By Little completely amazing. Especially the Doll's Kobold - that's amazing. I wish I were friends with Aquacorps!
