Grand Chupacabra
This is the miniature variety of Arundina graminifolia. I purchased this from Andy's awhile back. It was slow to get started, but once it adapted to my care and conditions, it really took off in terms of growth. This plant has bloomed many times for me, but this is probably the biggest show it has put on so far. Lots and lots of spikes, all in bloom at the same time!
Years and years ago, I grew the standard sized variety. Not an easy task for an indoor grower who grows orchids under shop lights. At one point, the plant exceeded 9ft (3+m) in height. This variety is far more manageable. Out of bloom, it's about a foot in height and this current bush is only in a 4 inch square pot.
The downsides? The flowers aren't terribly long lived. Although they are fragrant, it's really faint and hardly worth mentioning.
FYI, the bromeliad behind it is Wallfusia 'Antonio'. If I get around to taking more photos, I'll try to make a post here on ST about it.
