i was so excited for this to bloom (doll's kobold) but found it blasting at the very last minute. i've already lost one bud. 😭😭😭 my humidity spikes after watering and i believe it's blasting because i didn't vent my little greenhouse cover for this shelf.

i suspect the roots of the paphs in this shelf might be suffering from over saturation.

1) should i vent the shelf and let everything dry out completely before watering again?

2) or should i vent the shelf and water as usual (1x per week)?

3) or vent the shelf and treat the plant with something? if so, what do you recommend?

i have a couple other paphs in bud right now on the same shelf so i am worried about those guys blasting too but so far look fine.

i find the more i worry about a paph and fiddle with it out of excitement it ends up in a bad way. the more i ignore a plant the more it thrives. 🤣 doh!

I would make sure that the entire growing area has decent air movement 24/7. I grow in a 15’ x 12’ room in a house that is a bit drafty.
But during the day, I have 2, 20” oscillating fans that are set to low speed. The lights and fans are on timers. I water early in the day, never late. This way the fans help to dry things off. They cost very little to run. They run ten hours every day. They keep the humidity even all around.
My lights, 21 tubes, and the fans cost me about a dollar a day to run. If that.

I have never seen a plant blast its buds because of a sudden increase in humidity. A sudden drop, sure, but not an increase. I’d look for another explanation.

Is it possible the plant was too dry before you watered?

Hmmm...since it's a mix of chuck & henry...

1. Did your temps get fairly high (85°F+) when it was close to blooming? My fall-winter bloomers LOVE to blast if they push buds early while the growspace is still hot.
2. What have you been feeding it?
3. Spray anything recently?

Since it has blasted, may as well repot & check the roots.

i've refrained from watering all my plants on this shelf except the ones in bud (they got a little refreshing spritz). i have been trying to vent the shelves since i posted but my humidity remains high. here are my stats for the last week. definitely seeing an odd spike in temps. its avg of 65-70 outside so 80s+ indoors is really weird. i will repot and check out the roots sometime this week. 😐
