Just in time for next week's MOS Palm Sunday show, this is Phrag. Fritz Schomburg (besseae x kovachii). Not our breeding but looks like it may have nice potential.

I'm really looking forward to it blooming, because it's from the same breeding as the one Sam had in his exhibit in Madison in early February (see photo).

Can't believe it opened so fast! Since the flower has a horizontal natural spread of only 9.7 cm, I think it will probably grow a little more. The color is unusual; based on the petal color in yesterday's photo of the bud, I was expecting more red and less pink, but still pleasant. Now I have to keep it cool so it lasts until this weekend's MOS show!

Hi Dot,

The weather looks good driving there on Friday, but problematic driving home Sunday evening. One of the forecasters in Chgo is saying we may have as many as 15 inches of snow Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, while the other says more like 6 inches. Given the general accuracy of these guys lately however, anything's possible.

Good luck with the snow Tom and all. The flower looks great so far. Does it have a hint of the "windows' in the pouch, esp close to the stami?

Hi Rick,

It does have fenestrae in that area. It's interesting because they are not sharply defined - a rather soft transition in color between them and the surrounding pink tissue. See photos.....size has grown to 10.4 cm HNS. Unfortunately, the photos are a little over-exposed because it's sunny in the greenhouse this morning....

The weather forecast changes daily -- even hourly -- around here. Right now the weather channel is saying that Sunday's high will be 35º with cloudy skies and a 20% chance of precip. If they are saying snow in Chicago, please keep it there. (If you need a place to stay overnight, we are sorta "on the way" -- I'll be there Sunday for tear-down.)
