(C. aclandiae × C. guttata) x E. magnoliae

As far as I can tell, this is an unregistered hybrid. It's not going to be a show stopper for most folks, but it's right down my alley.

Fragrance is strong and nice! It reminds me a bit of C. aclandiae (one of the parents) but I wouldn't say it's as strong and there's definitely other notes at play. This flower is fragrant day and night, though it's strongest during the daytime. This is a fantastic scent.

Care is easy. It tolerates temperatures near freezing in the winter and has handled the record heat this summer without issue.

Small size makes it easy to find space for this to grow!

I like the understated flower color. I really appreciate how dominant the E. magnoliae is in terms of the flower shape and presentation. But it still gives a faint impression of some of the more exotic fully tropical Cattleyas.

I think this came from Louisiana Orchid Connection several years ago. It has bloomed before, but this year is by far its best show. I think it actually appreciated the cold winter semi-rest it got this past year. I've seen photos of these elsewhere online, they can actually turn out MUCH better than the flowers on my plant. Mine is probably one of the ugly ducklings by comparison, but as I said, I like it either way.

It's currently growing in a pot in a chunky bark mix. I'm considering dividing it eventually so that I can mount a piece of it to see if it prefers that more. Roots are very chunky and proportionally quite thick given the size of the plant, so I'm guessing more airflow in the root zone would be appreciated. In years past, it has grown indoors under LEDs year round without issue. And as I mentioned earlier, since last year it's been growing in the greenhouse where it gets near freezing in winter. I still water it a bit through the winter, but I make sure that the mix does not stay wet. In the heat of summer, it's getting watered pretty much every day. I'm using a 60% shade cloth, and it seems to like it. E. magnoliae and its crosses seem to appreciate protection from direct sunlight, and they easily sunburn otherwise (which this plant has experienced a time or two).
