curious to know what other multi's that are generally large but exist in compact/miniature form?..I have a philippinense album, lowii, lowii albums, Berenice "albums", phillipinense, sharon booth album (well, they were bred with the same phil album as the Berenice)..my dianthum is small/compact but i think most tend to be that way
I have also noticed that sanderianum complexes get smaller with more parents

wilhelminae? even praestans are pretty small...

rothschildianum, some colonies and plants have a 30cm leafspan all included, but 2, sometimes 3 flowers on a spike.
stonei, I have seen pygmy forms in Kuching years ago
dianthum is usually very big, but because historically they had been sold by kilogram, the traders wanted the small ones, though most collected dianthum in Vietnam would be about 60-90cm leafspan otherwise.
kolopakingii 'Doll' is a pygmy form, about 50cm leafspan
gardineri, wilhelminiae, praestans red leaf are smaller to small.
praestans green leaf, most are the size of a rothschildianum, if not bigger, but they are very rare in culture because they did not survive historically the transport (too many broken leaves).

If you are interested in hybrids, there is some new hybridizing being done in Hawaii with Paph. Spiderman, which can contribute a smaller leaf size and spread. Again, it's as variable as anything else in Paphs, but I have seen some rather small plants at flowering size with a spread of about 30 cms or less. Their second and subsequent growths may be larger (these are new hybrids, only time will tell), but many I have seen are smaller and I know one of the goals of the hybridizer is smaller plants.

On a different note, have you been able to purchase any of the pygmy species?

yeah i have done some breeding with spiderman

I have a number of phillipinese var palawanense that are in 2 1/2in pots and are putting up 2nd and 3rd growths. The plants are probably 10 to 15cm. They would be great for making small hybrids. I always wanted to see what a Micheal Koopowitz would look like with one of them.
