Cycnoches Fire Embers

After seeing cooperi bloom for the first time last year, I went Cycnoches crazy and bought three more from SVO's October 2022 offering. This is one of them.

I'm interested in how you would describe the color, if you'd be willing to share your thoughts. So far, I've heard:

warm golden pumpkin
yellow brown green
mustard lime-yellow
burnt orange

Either way, it's a wonderful autumn color, perfect for a September bloom.

It has a light but pervasive fragrance, sweet and plasticky, something like vanilla-scented superglue. But don't get me wrong, it's nice. Very pleasant and I wish it were stronger.

I'll post more photos as the spike blooms out fully.

Golden mustard
It is not yellow mustard, not spicey mustard, and not Dijon mustard. Interesting color though.
Once in a while, I have used ‘old gold’ in some instances. But this is more vibrant then old gold.
It is not caramel or butterscotch either.
But now, after all of that, I am hungry!!

Very happy to report that, after a spectacular blooming this year, this is now Cycnoches Fire Embers 'Patience' AM/AOS, CCM/AOS





AM is 86 points and CCM is 82 points.

Natural spread: H 10.1 cm, V 9.5 cm
Dorsal sepal: H 2.2 cm, V 5.8 cm
Petal: H 2.7 cm, V 5.1 cm
Lateral sepal: H 2.2 cm, V 4.6 cm
Lip: H 1.8 cm, V 4.5 cm

CCM description: Eighteen well-formed, relatively flat non-reupinate flowers and one bud evenly distributed over two up to 34 cm pendant inflorescences, borne on a healthy plant consisting of one 40 cm-tall pseudobulb plus two older, leafless pseudobulbs, forming a 44 cm-diameter plant; flower base color ochre; sepals and petals thinly veined olive green, reverse veined light brown; lip base bright green, apex ivory with yellow edge; column light green, anther cap bright yellow; substance very firm; texture satiny; recognized for exemplary presentation; also received AM, award no. 20240454.
