I noticed this roundish dark colored pointed growth on my cymbidium recently. Is this a spike? I sure hope it is, because it is the blooming season (winter) for most cymbidiums. New growths are usually green from what I know, not dark colored. The growth also isn't flat, it's round all the way. A tiny drop of nectar is also visible at the tip of the growth, which most orchid spikes have when developing. Fingers crossed for a spike!🤞

I would say YES. Also note that SOME plants will have green spikes, I have one and it threw me for a loop. Counted 7 'growths' and turned out to be spikes. Depends on parentage

New spikes tend to be quite round.
