I use a little nitric acid in rainwater with a pH between 3-4.

i know this post was a while ago - can you remember what strength nitric acid you used and how much?

trying to get a cyp acuale to do a bit better!! thanks

I’ve seen similar answers in different places, aiming for pH of at least down to 4, so a little lower than 4 target is good.
Sources of acid may vary in strength; just take a gallon of water, and put drops into it until you’ve reached pH 4. Always add small drops slowly into the water taking care not to splash
