These belong Imo to the most impressive orchid blooms because of their unique shape and color!!!! Unfortunately I cannot grow them (tried several times) Jean

Same color, same size on canes and flowers. I have two sitting side by side, and they look the same. Thanh Nguyen showed me some when I was at Redlands, also. We both agreed they look the same.

I won't tell you how many I've killed so far. Hopefully, I'm learning how to grow them better. Maybe the greenhouse helps.

I have a plant labeled as lamyaiae also that to me looks identical to unicum. I too have been wondering what the difference is between the two. I wonder if the plants are perhaps mislabeled and this is adding to the confusion .

Pretty thing Dot, but I heard it is a little tough to flower well. Is that true? Also, how long do the flowers last on these? I've been really pleased with its hybrid, D. Stardust since they last for weeks.

Lamyaiae's flowers lasted about two weeks. Probably will be the same for unicum.

I've only had the plants for about a year -- maybe a little less. So I'm not sure whether I had anything to do with their flowering or not. I treated them the same -- watering twice a week in the slightly cooler, but very bright area in my greenhouse. Before my greenhouse (January), they were inside under lights, same watering schedule.

Cool species!!! I love this one too!! I think the difference between this one and lamyaiae, is the shape of the petals. lamyaiae has more pointy petals and lip.
