Hey group

I'm just curious if you can tell the difference between emersonii and hangianum leaves. I have emersonii but obviously not hangianum. Are they pretty different with regards to plant leaves and growth habit? As I understand they are closely related.

In the case of my plants, both have faint reticulations, but they show up better on emersonii. Also, emersonii has slightly lighter colored and wider leaves than hangianum. Other than that, it's pretty hard to tell the difference. Mine are still seedlings so I can't say much with regard to growth habit.

As I understand it ... I shouldn't have hang living here in the US.... unless I'm wrong? please tell me I'm wrong :)

O, didn't know that baodai was in the US. From his past posts, I thought baodai was in Vietnam. Can you offer your legal sources?

The fact is that there are sources- seed grown- of Vietnamese paphs. Plants that would be legit in any other country...certainly plants that are ethically legit...but are still illegal by USFW regulations. None of these plants can be sold openly (except Ebay...and that is risky). Theoretically, USFW can procescute the sellers...but won't bother with the purchasers. In practicality, the USFW doesn't want to deal with anything low level, hobbiest level...and is perfectly happy to turn the otherway...but you would not want to provoke them either. And since it is all still illegal, if they get pissed off, or feel they are taken advantage of,....well, you don't want to tease a tied up dog for too long....... That said, there are some supposed claims of CITES permits for hang, jackii, and some others...at this point there is enough smoke in the air to be confusing as to whether any of these permits are fully legit or not. I know that Sanderianum has claimed that much of the seed grown stuff is really collected...but there is seed grown stuff out there, in the US, whether legal or not. Take care, Eric
