Escape Rooms - what are they?

So I have seen more and more friends on my Facebook feed posting pictures of their experiences in an Escape Room, what seems to be a new type of game.

Does anyone know anything about it, or tried it?

Panic room, hidden room in house to hide from home invaders, angry wife, loud kids etc... lol..

It's a puzzle. You try to figure out how to get out of a room with friends and/or strangers. Often the solution requires working together somehow, so if you have people who have stubborn personalities you may be in for a long experience. Often there is a time limit, e.g. An hour.
