I have a Paph. delenatii that almost bloomed last year for the first time until I knocked both buds off. I'm really anxious to see what the flowers will turn out like. The cross is 'Half & Half' x 'dunkie #6'. Has anyone heard of either of these clones or know who make this cross? The "i" in "dunkie" might be an "L". 'dunkie #6' sounds like a name that somebody would just come up with, 'Half & Half' seems like it may(?) be registered. There is also two codes or something on the tag. They are "JF831" & "10.11.30". I got this plant from Randy Tajima at Mid-Pacific Orchids. Anyone have any info?

Popow has delenatii vinicolor to sell and he is telling they are dunkel X self
and another seller offered some days agao this plants with the same tag.

So no idea if this is a name or only decribe vinicolor.

No buds forming now. Last year they started to peak through on January 30.

it's 'Dunkle' - describes the dark coloured pouch form of delenatii and is not a specific cultivar name (or is used to generically describe the dark pouch from). google it - http://www.orchidweb.com/products/paph-delenatii-var-vinicolor-dunkel~2205.html
Cultivar names, like 'half and half' are not registered. Anybody can add a cultivarl name to a plant (if its not already named).

I knew that about dunkle. But the tag either says "dunkie #6" or "dunkle #6". I know a lot of cultivar names are not registered but I was wondering if 'Half and Half' was just a common unregistered one or if it was awarded and had been registered.

I've never heard of those, but if I had to guess and read a little into the naming this would be my assumptions...

The dunki(l)e #6 is probably a Dunkle form and #6 is possibly a number denoting a specific dunkle in the crosser's collection. If I had to guess on the Half and Half, I would assume it was a dunkle x alba, dunkle x normal, alba x normal, but who really knows? People name their plants for various reasons, and for all we know, the half and half could actually represent a half pink half white flower.

Do you know the source of your plant?

This is what I was thinking too Goods. Since OrchidBoy does know who he purchased the plant from that's a good place to start.

However, I've flowered stuff which were crosses of albas, normals and normal/alba crosses and ended up with pastels (rather than albas or normal phenotypes). So flower color in paphs doesn't always seem to come out according to normal Mendelian genetic predictions.

So OrchidBoy will just have to wait to see how it comes out anyway.

Just like Christmas!!!
