About a month ago, I got two Dendrobium cuthbertsonii - red flower, and purple flower.

I am wondering if it's normal for the foliage to be different between the different color forms of this species.

One has thicker and more stiff leaves with bright green coloration. The other has thinner and less robust leaves which have a slight grayish or more pale green coloration.

The main reason I ask is because the plant shipment was lost in the mail for over two weeks and the plants were extremely dehydrated. One seemed to be worse than the other (the grayish one with thinner leaves was worse). So I'm wondering if this foliage color and texture difference could be due to the dehydration. Or do you think this is a natural variation between the red vs purple forms?

Thanks

I don't think you need to worry about it. Den. cuthbertsonoii is a variable species (the size/shape of the canes, leaves and the texture of the leaves can be different from plant to plant, even within the same clone if the culture is significantly different)

@Tom-DE Thank you for the info. That is what I suspected, but wanted to see what the experts thought. I am communicating with the vendor so I wanted to have a bit of info to work with. It seems fine so with time I think it will start to grow again. The thicker leafed one is showing new growth already. I am excited because this has been one of my all time top wishlist plants for many years, and finally I am able to grow it since I set up a highland cloud forest tent.

Good luck! It is a very desirable Dendrobium species and the flower can last for 10 months...
In my previous collection, I had quite a few of them, and also some other PNG Dendrobium species in the Calyptrochilus section.
