I saw that too. It is cool to think they get that big.. I've seen small ones in zoos, but nothing in size compared to that..

Hehehe, everything seems to be growing these days.. except my small sanderianum seedling lol! They estimated that its 50 years old. So it can still grow a few more feet I think. What is their life span? A hundred years?

There's a part of me that feels sorry for it, I wonder if it will adapt to captivity and how long it will live, but can certainly understand the threat to human life and I'm sure it's not been picky about what it eats!

I understand how you feel but I think it will be the best thing for this majestic beast. It could have been killed. These thing ate a whole water buffalo. Maintenance for this thing will be expensive.

That would be interesting to know. I'm thinkin' less activity, lower food intake but what does it take to sustain a croc of that size??? How long did the water buffalo last before he resumed hunting/feeding?
My husband & I were watching a nature program, a python ate a small gazelle/antelope type animal, it wouldn't need to eat for a year!

Supposedly, saltwater crocs (Crocodilus porosus) can reach 30 feet......but I'm sure that the 30' croc is in the same league as the 30' great white shark and the 40' reticulated python......It may well be better off in a protected environment, away from poachers. Its metabolism isn't exactly the fastest, but it will definitely need some substantial feeding.

In the 70's, Indonesia had a problem with a croc that decided that meals were easier and better along the water front. The area folks lived in homes built on stilts over the water and this old boy used to go along the water front at night and knock the homes off the stilts and eat the inhabitants as they splashed around. The Indonesian government asked the Australian government for help and they sent croc hunters in. I remember one comment made was that a refrigerator could fit in the crocs mouth. I don't remember what the actual size of it was, just that it was exceptionally large and menacing.
