I never remembered it was ever this hairy lol. Looks itchy.




A discussion from another post as to the longevity of the blooms (under two weeks). I will experiment to see if cold nights would extend it past the 2 weeks.

Both parents (delenatii x vietnamense) have lasted 3-4 weeks for me.

My last Ho Chi Minh flowers only lasted 8 days. My delenatii flowers last almost 2 months. I do not have a vietnamense species.......I wonder if it’s flowers are short lived......

Thanks Michael for liking my Paph collection. They are a joy for me. I forget there’s a pandemic when I’m tending them.

You have quite a nice collection too. I enjoy your flowers by proxy lol.

Some of my delenatiis last 2 months but a majority around 4 weeks in prime show condition. The only one vietnamense flower that I bloomed lasted 4 weeks. So in theory, their offspring should last 6 weeks. But unfortunately they don’t and that is why it was a very disappointing pot flower plant.

The longevitiy of flowers depend a lot on temperature I think. My vietnamense lasted less than two weeks last time, let's hope its bud just emerging wont't blast this time...

Here in the south, HCM likes to bloom in June, when the shows/sales are over and the days are hot - they last a week or so, usually less.

FWIW Paph. vietnamense blooms January - April and seems to last 2-3 weeks.

HCM seems to have a fragile gossamer substance, will bruise if you look at it the wrong way.

It’s in day 3 now so I think it won’t expand anymore. It had flatter bigger petals before. The second bud is still growing but likely won’t open before first flower is done (like last year).

The pouch is perfect this year and earned the name ‘Lollipop’ for this cultivar.

There was no indication in the tag from Marlowe Orchids but I also think a vinicolor was used due to the darkness of the pouch.

Lovely and impressive flower....a lot of hair everywhere. Myabe this is one of the best, if not the best HCM I've ever seen.

So we are at the 12th day mark and it seems the cooler nights (15-16C) are helping to keep the first flower fresh while the second flower is opening. I’m curious if it will pass the 2 week mark??



Form hasn’t improved on first bloom. Let’s see how second bud fares in a couple days.

So day 14th is where the marks show up. Just 2 weeks longevity.

One of my good friends Austin sent me pics of this plant when I bought it. The flower opened up really nicely in the greenhouse. Perhaps I’ll move this plant into a buddy’s GH this summer.


It has not bloomed as nice indoors the last 2 times.
