Welcome from Luxembourg David!!!! A great pic of that vanda beauty as an introduction:clap: !!! Do you have more of them ? Jean

David Welcome from Northern Thailand !!
it's so sad to hear that another specie is threatened with demise
and then to think that all terete ,semiterete and quarterterte Vanda hybrids
were made with Papilionanthe hookeriana and teres
do you have any pictures of the destruction of the natural habitat ?
were are you located in west java ?
what kind of things you grow and collect ?
happy orchid growing from Northern [now nippy] Thailand
cliokchi;)

Thanks guys,

Yes, I have few seedlings from selfing.

hi David,

why are your Thai orchids so super stressed ?
my plants look quite relaxed and happy in Thailand
any particular reason they got stressed ?
cliokchi

Welcome to Slippertalk, David.

Are your plants stressed because they are rescued from habitats that are being destroyed? If so, thank you for rescuing them.

That plant so stressed, cause we already got that plant at the Chatuchak market in bad condition and very dry (badly dehydration)...

another view of Nepenthes bicalcarata habitat, that we found...

Hi David,

thanx for sharing picture of Paph. dayanum habitat
and so interesting to see all the things that it grows in between
we always try to tear out every Fern or non orchid plant that
appears in a pot , maybe orchids needs companion plants,
we have studied at the habitat of Paph. hangianum that small small
seedlings reach flowering size within 2 to 3 yrs with leafspan 20+ cm
if you deflask hangianum they will grow a lot slower, so something
is missing in our mixes.
do you have any other habitat pictures of Paph's ?
cliokchi:clap:
thanx4sharing

Hi David
I was from that area too, some 43 years ago. Still visit Java occasionally. Last October, like any other time, I visited Pak Ayub. I wonder if you know him. He lives in Lembang.

Thanks for posting the habitat photos -- always interesting.

cliokchi, although I wonder about that also, I've observed that in pot culture ferns, if allowed to grow, soon take over the pot and the orchid roots can't compete and die. Maybe it's because the medium is worn out by then and the orchid roots die because of lack of oxygen. Or is it because the fern suck up all the nutrients? I don't know.
