Location
Kyushu, Japan; warm temperate/subtropical climate
The wife and I made a journey to the central mountains of Kyushu last weekend to an immense volcanic plateau, the Kuju Highlands. This place is a botanical wonderland. Its edges fall off rapidly to lower elevations and rivers cut them with deep gorges. Here is a wonderful waterfall we encountered in one of those gorges. Cool place!

Really Nice Waterfall

Glad you all enjoyed it. I'll be posting some more vids as soon as I can produce them.

Oh yes Jean, I got my feet wet! The water was quite cold - I'd guess around 8 C (~46 F). I routinely "swim" in the waterfalls around my city since they are pleasantly cool, but this water was just a bit too cold for my taste.

Abax, Japan is relatively small, but it covers a wide range of latitudes and has elevations from sea level to over 3000 meters (~10,000'). If you include the southern islands it stretches from ~25 degrees N latitude (same as Key West), all the way to 45 degrees N latitude (central Maine). Diversity of plant life is remarkable due to this geography and proximity to the Asian mainland. BTW, it you connected all the islands together, the total landmass would roughly equal California.

Wowzer! Thank you for sharing that! I look forward to seeing more!

Yep, I know Japan well and have several Japanese friends.
The diversity of the island environment is amazing. I have
fallen deeply in love with Kyoto and the small village with the "praying hands" houses where silk worms were cared for in the past.
