The trip was AMAZING! The food was AMAZING!

Unfortunately, I did not get to go to any neo/orchid vendors. Need to slot one in next time. But I did see a few no name neos at a street fair.

Marco, I'm glad you all had a good trip to Japan. Isn't it bizarre to see fall color so late! Locally we had our best color in December. You really need to get to a native orchid nursery here sometime - you'll flip.

So what did you end up eating?

It is a little strange seeing the fall color somewhat late. But I will say, the night time illuminations of the temples was beautiful! It's nice that they have this during the fall.

I just wish i had a better camera to take night time photos!

We are definately going back. Just don't know when yet. However since we kind of focused in on central japan, the next trip will either be northern hokkaido area or the southern area. If we visit hokkaido it will be the catch the april/may cherry blossoms.

Nice! I'm also curious about the eating!

Well....right now we have about 4,670 photos...yes 4,670. probably a third or half of which are duplicates or duds. I actually found the neo photos i was looking for just now. I will post a links to my flickr for the various places we ate, after i sort/upload them. Will post sometime later this week.

We really tried to get a taste of everything while we were there [kamameshi, kaiseki, udon, sushi/sashimi, grilled fish, street food/fair food (karage, takoyaki, grilled meat on a stick) mcdonalds (they had a kalbi burger and shrimp filet)]

Is it just this year or is it typical to have fall colors til so late in this part of Japan?

Sounds like my Sichuan trip - so many photos and videos. Japan has some really elegant eating, no doubt. Not a lot of low quality food here, not even at chain restaurants. Of course you have to be happy with smaller portions than you typically get in the states, and at the full price!

Not typical. Here in Fukuoka at low elevation the bulk of fall should be finished by the first week of December and the best colors in mid November. This year the best color was two weeks later than normal. In fact we still have not had ONE frost here yet... BTW, just a couple generations ago fall came at the end of October in Fukuoka, so the trend line is pretty obvious.

Lovely photos Marco! Now I understand where you've been. I forgot that you were planning to be in Japan!
