My Cattleyas in 2025

I grow only few Catlleyas due to I wasn't sureI could grow them indoor on window sills and also due to limited space ... but when I gave Catts a try and aquired my plants some years ago I couldn't resist to add one of my all time favourite orchids .... Cattleya schilleriana. Now I'm happy to see the plant in flower for the very first time...
Hopefully some more of my Catts will do the same within this year 2025.

Yes, why not ? Don't you like it ? But don't ask me to describe it .... it's a bit different than that of other Cattleyas.

Rudolph, I think with Western or Southern exposure it’s possible. monocotman had beautiful windowsill catts. All my windows are eastern. So for 4 years I grew cattleya foliage plants until I moved them under lights! Within 2 weeks they started to spike!

Glad to see others growing cattleya. Even after almost 30 years, it seems that as your observation skills become defined, the cattleys seem to whisper how they are doing, what they need and how you can grow and flower them better. Even the mini and compact type can challenge you with their variable genetic idiosyncratic demands. Light, temperature, air movement and seasonal moisture can make or break a flowering cycle. Below I received best cattleya in show last week in Toronto, with trianae 'Aranka Germanske' and the lueddemanniana and the smalish trianae coerulea flamea which received 2nd place ribbons are also mine. Success comes with focus and experience, both of which are rewarding. Always learning, cheers.

Yes, i've heard the fragrance described as 'root beer', but i don't think you have that in europe? Traditionally made from Sassafras root bark.

William, I've tried a lot of different beers in my lifetime ... but never heard of such beer.

I knew some folks from Eastern Europe that tried root beer and absolutely hated it. Apparently that's a flavoring that's used in certain types of medicine, so they have associated it with being unpleasant and disgusting.

I've never smelled C. schilleriana that I can recall, but I've always heard it's got a strong, pleasant scent. I do have some hybrids of this species, but one of them (Catyclia Green Dragon) is basically non-fragrant and the others I haven't managed to bloom yet.

I am not a fan of root beer. I don't even like the smell, but if my schilleriana ever decides to flower again I guess I will tolerant it. The last time mine bloomed was in the summer, and I do not recall a fragrance.
