Not if you shop around. I can give you some links to some great CP nurserys in the U.S. They aren't too bad to import either (although I've never done it myself).
 
The first one, nep Miranda (Mixta x maxima) is a very common hybrid sold here (and in the US too, I believe). It is tolerant of a degree of mishandling and bears large lower pitchers (up to 12inches), making it an ideal beginner's plant...
 
nice! had one in school and it wasn't humid enough and the pitchers would always dry up. so.. I put it in the communal men's bathroom at the housing co-op where everyone takes showers (not in the stall's :) ) but it was too humid and it rotted (sigh)
 
Sorry to hear that. It might have died from another cause, but hard to believe it was because of too high humidity. Is that even possible for a Nepenthes?
 
possibly no air movement? wasn't much in there, and maybe too dark as well.. could be that I had just stressed it too much with drying out before, so that the big switch finished it off
