P. villosum var. annamense

Well, as a surprise to myself & probably others I'm posting a Paph in flower.
I bought it in bud a short while ago because of its somewhat rarity.
My collection is starting to get going again so hopefully I will be able to post Paphs & Phrags again.

Here is something to consider, according to the net, there seems to be 8 forms of annamense, only one according to early paintings & description is correct & "doesn't" match this one.
Pics on the net come from Commercial & top line growers whom I would have thought, knew the difference. Some show types like mine here & others the "description type" & others, nothing like either...

Ok, getting closer to truth. This "isn't" P. villosum var. annamense.
I've been able to read a paper on P. villosum in Vietnam which included pictures of the known varieties & variants. It appears that this one is as close as possible to P. villosum var villosum which in turn, has variants similar to but not quite var. annamense. Whether this is a pure var. villosum or it x another similar villosum we will probably never know. So, if anyone wants to sell you a P. villosum var. annamense say NO.

I'm pleased with it, no prob's there. P''d off about the name but not as much as the bloke I bought it of I reckon. He would not be happy.
