I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest a source for Paph appletonianum (or hainanense, wolterianum..) currently in bud or bloom. Failing that, some saved pollen...

Did you ever find any pollen?
I have one in bud with the bloom just opening, however it appears to be Paph appletonianum fma album...maybe. I checked Olaf's newest book Genus Paphiopedilum Albino Forms, but cannot be sure. Maybe Olaf could elaborate. I'll try to get a picture this weekend...maybe the bud will be open enough to see if there are any dark spots on the petals. For now, it appears to at least be an "albine flower and brown inflorescence." That description comes from a photo caption in Olaf's book on page 19. Anyway, as I said, I'll try to get a picture this weekend.

There are small dark dots on the petals and the inflorescence is brown.
Here's a picture of the bloom. I'll post this one and another in the photographs section as well.

I didn't get any pollen when I was looking for it, and the chance for the cross I wanted to make at the time is now long gone. I have a nice typical color appletonianum type in flower now, labeled as hainanense x wolterianum, but I think most consider them varieties of appletonianum if valid at all. I do like your album. Can we get a picture of the leaves?

being the newbie that I am I did not realize that appletonianum and wolterianum were considered by some to be the same species......so in addition to winning a compot of appletonianum and a compot of delenatii on e-bay I also just won a compot of Paph appletonianum x Paph wolterianum......which Craig was good enough to point out to me that...... Paph appletonianum x Paph wolterianum is called Paph Phnom Penh....if they are the same species how can this cross be named Phnom Penh?

NO wonder the appletonianum complex is so screwed up, with people making crosses like this.

Opinions are always going to vary in a group as similar as these species. RHS has accepted wolterianum for registration of a few hybrids. That doesn't necessarily annoint it as a valid species for all time. Species or variety boundries are always an invisible line we choose to draw, an artifical concept we try to impose on the real world. The lines can move. I will maintain the hainanense x wolterianum label (and hope the originator of the cross was certain of those identifications) as well as Phnom Penh. There may be horticultural distinctions worth maintaining even if the species/varieties get sliced and diced another way in the future.

I totally agree. Todd's plants may very well be appletonianum. I too would keep the Phnom Penh for now, but as things change sometimes they stay the same.
