Ho Chi Minh is a primary cross between delenatii and vietnamense. It was registered recently in 2002 by Popow. Paph. Ho Chi Minh was named after a president in Vietnam.

You have a beautiful example of that cross, with good solid colour.

I'm curious as to why people dislike the name. Just ugly & awkward, or are there some bad associations?

Ignorant & curious. (Definitely agree it's a beautiful colored flower!)

What one side may call a freedom fighter, another side may call a terrorist. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle, and history will make its judgment. While events are still within living memory feelings may run hot, and such a name will be controversial.

Wow! I had no idea of the associations of the name. I said I was ignorant, but didn't realize just how much. To me, it was just the name of a city in Vietnam. I understand a little better now and will refer to it as simply HCM. (Sounds a little like an AOS award that way!)

Thanks, Candace & Emydura for the links. I am now a little less ignorant.

Hmmm, to me that strikes a chord about my age. I remember watching the televised 'conflict' as a boy growing up and crying while watching the 'fall' of Saigon after all the losses and devastation! I guess eventually it will be a footnote in history books; or maybe it already is.

Depends on whose history. Vietnam's will certainly be more than a footnote, and probably this U.S.'s also.

I was elligable to be drafted into the Viet Nam war, luckily I was able to avoid the draft into the US military. For you youngsters, we did not have an all volunteer military then as we do today. Many innocent people died at the hands of all sides fighting in that war. All the "heros" of that war had innocent blood on their hands along with the blood of "lawful combatants". Unfortunately the lessons of that war were forgotten, so we have gotten into similar now. It is a shame that people (all nations, not just USA) don't make enough of an attempt to learn from history.

Here, here Leo. I was there too. They, the gov, ended the draft about two months before I graduated high school. I was like Eric watching it almost every day on the new and I was so scared. Back then not all people (US of A) didn't support the boys in battle and that made it tough!

If someone were of a subversive political bent, ( and had a talent for crossing orchids) they might backcross HCM to vietnamense, and name it "Mem. Saigon", or some such appropriate appellation.
