Longbur shares some of the genetics of Sandra Mary - it too is a bronzy flower, from two bronzy parents, Harbur 'Balthazar' and Haroun. Santa Margarita, one of the parents of Sandra Mary, has Haroun as a parent as well. It recieved its award in 1970, and McClellans' bred, registered (1967), and recieved the award on this clone. Interestingly enough, it has no progeny; the ploidy of Harbur 'Balthazar' has long been questionable, and it's distinctly possible Longbur is so aneuploidic that it won't breed at all. Certainly the 1970s would have seen many, many hybrids by McClellans, so one would think this would be a figurative parent...

Harbur is an interesting parent...not alot of awarded grexes (the proper word for this is greges, btw) and not alot of further breeding. Certainly Ranchero (x Inca) is a nice thing from it, as is Classic 'Autumn Glow' (x Denehurst) and Via Luna Este, but the reluctance and deformities that these grexes breed would seem to give further creedence to the idea that Harbur is an aneuploid. Of these, only Classic grows "well" - quickly and without weirdness of growths, and Denehurst is is such a good breeder, so to some extent that makes sense. At the same time, Gigi is a fantastic breeder, but little has been done with even that prettiest of complexes, Via Luna Este 'China Doll'. Also of note is the large number of awarded Harburs: I have 'Balthazar', 'Golden Gateway', 'Perfection', and 'Lynne', and they all look very different, especially since some have spotted dorsals and some do not - but I digress...this is info for a post on Harbur, which will be forthcoming in the future...
