Stratospheric! I am amazed at the spike length!
A beautiful species, those warm chestnut tones are nicely offset by the clean lime of the dorsal. A nicely balanced and symmetrical bloom.
Rick, I see it is in basket culture, do you have any in pots? If so, how does their growth compare?

Thanks Gary

The short answer is yes, and they are way behind the ones in baskets. However, I think its more complex in that I started the basket thing before low K/low everything, and the first group of seedlings that I shifted to the baskets were bigger to start with.

I recently repoted the last 4 or so laggards that were left in pots, into both baskets and pots. We'll see if the basket guys speed up, or if its just a matter of keeping the mix in pots oligotrophic.

. keeping the mix in pots oligotrophic.

Sorry, although I completed my schooling and medical degree in English, there are a lot of terms which escape me! What is oligotrophic? Since I have joined this forum I have spent more time than ever before with the English dictionary on my desk!

Oligotrophic is primarily a limnology (study of water bodies) term meaning nutrient impoverished.
The converse term is eutrophic (which many of us consider synonymous with "polluted").

Nice plant and good growing Rick. I have two fs plants that I just imported. Cant wait to bloom them after seeing your plant. What conditions do you grow yours in?

General conditions are shaded and humid. Max summer high temps are high 80's F, and lows above 60F. Humidity maintained above 70%.

I've done best with basket culture, but wouldn't call it mandatory at this point rather than just feeding at very low rates and low K. Then you can give as much water as they like.

Another fantastic basket case Rick!!

Beautifully done. I'm very impressed with your oneness with your plants, very magical LOL.

Very impressive. Both flower and plant look nice. And that long stem is...
Nice to see this species. Thanks for sharing ;)

Beautiful, well done!

Envy rears it head

Mastersianum has always been a problem plant. Always just languished for years then perished. I have one left, when I switched to K-Lite Jan 2013, it stopped or slowed its decline. Had a MUCH colder winter in my basement grow room this year, and that doesn't help. Mostly in low 60's, and they do prefer a bit warmer, high 60's and up. But it hasn't died yet, so there is hope. Yeah K-Lite.
