A young roth opened its first flower for the first time on Tuesday 5th of November. It shows promise, 2nd flower is just opening, the plant is still young awith weak roots, but shows some promise, I think it is worth another flower. Taiwanese breed unknown parents. DS 24cm DS 5.1 cm.

Enjoy your Sunday.

I think we can all appreciate a nice flower whether or not we agree with the politics behind the name, seeing as how it is not our plant to name in the first place. It's very nice RR, but if the roots are weak, you might want to cut the spike and enjoy them in a vase. They'll last at least a week.

Well, Royal Rea, you really should have not stirred the pot or played the fire here...there is a political subforum for those who....

Agreed.
But for my way of thinking any Roth needs to be treasured, unless of course, it flowers all crazy, twisted and stuff. But I still use the 3 flowerings rule. If, as a mature plant, flowers poorly on it's third blooming, that is when I would consider moving on from that plant. To have those comments here in such a wonderful forum seem out of line to me. Yes, I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but as my Grandma used to say, "if you can't say something nice, do not say anything at all."

Agreed, as well. We don't even know for sure who named the plant! Where is civility, whether you agree or disagree with someone? There is a forum for political discussion on Slipper Talk. Please don't expose all of us to comments that really are not appropriate here.

You can give your plant a clonal name if you wish...It is not an official/registered clonal name tho.

Tom-DE Yes, I'm aware of that. I missed the part that it was a first bloom so would not have been named before. But it is my understanding (told by a judging team) that if a plant is divided, then given/sold a clonal name should be given that will then follow that plant and any future divisions should it ever be awarded. Makes sense, so that the same cultivar that I have and gave a division of to someone (if awarded later) would not then have that division presented for an award as an unnamed cultivar (or with another name).

That's correct...but it also happened many times(especially in the past) that the same awarded plant got different clonal names for "bad" reasons.
