My second Paph. Vanguard (rothschildianum x gluchophyllum) flowered. I like it very much this is its third flowering and the color and shape is very good but size seems to be a little on the small side DW is only 4.9 cm.

I still like it with it's almost horizontal petals.

Enjoy.

Ramon:)

Form and colour are better than size, anyway. A huge, crappy flower is still a crappy flower. This one is REALLY gorgeous! The proportions are perfect and the colour is clear and bright. Wonderful!

This is a little comparison of my plant and the FCC awarded clone 'Margret Haydon DVM' FCC. My plant has its pouch jutting out a little forward than downward. I will not submit it for judging since the flower is small and there are bumps on the pouch.

What do you think?

'Margret Haydon DVM' FCC from AOS file.

Hey, I know Margret Haydon! She's from Ottawa, about 5 hours from me. I didn't know she got an FCC! I'm not surprised though. Her collection is A+ and she's an awesome grower.

Yes, the dorsal on yours doesn't have such bold striping; but, it's got clear colour and excellent form. I'd definitely say awardable and who knows, if you got just the right group of judges who valued it's other fantastic qualities and didn't dwell on it not having as much brown in the dorsal, it could reach 90 points. It's that good, IMHO. Besides, the stripes in the FCC clone are not as defined as yours. They "bleed" their colour into the background green. In my opinion, that's a fault. Yours has clearly defined stripes that allow the background colour to show through, without a muddy wash over them. I find the colour of your dorsal more pleasing than the darker dorsal on the FCC.

It was awarded September 30, 2000 at the Central Ontario Orchid Society show. It should be in flower rigth now. Take pictures if you are going.
